98 GT, Weird AC problem
Hello all, quick question. In my 98 GT, when I turn the AC on, only the 2 vents on the passenger side blow cold, the one on the drivers side, and the 2 in the middle(closest to driver) Will blow out hot air!! This is a problem that just started!! If anyone has any ideas as to what it could be, please let me know! Figures it was 90 here in NJ today!!!!! Thanks everyone..

Re: 98 GT, Weird AC problem
The first thing to check is the R134a refrigerant charge and make sure it's correct. It can be checked at the low pressure port. If that's good then you could have a problem with the vent actuator(s) that direct airflow. The actuators are controlled by the HVAC head unit and via vacuum.
Do you have a manual or auto digital HVAC system? ![]() Thrasher CAI, DHP v1.0 PCM, SLP Headers, 3.25 SC pulley, CAIT GMAF, 2.5 DP/Hi-Flow CAT, u-bend delete, 160 TS, ZZP Stage 1 72mm TB, TB spacer, MSD 8.5mm wires, Autolite 103, Goodyear Gatorback Serp. & SC Belt, Nitto NT555R Drag Radials 1/4 ET: 13.210 sec. @ 104.490 mph 0 - 60 ft: 1.945 sec.

Re: 98 GT, Weird AC problem
I agree with Bnaylor 100%. Most problems with the A/C blowing cold on the passenger side only are caused by low refrigerant. If the R134a is okay, then you have an actuator going south, and you'll need to know if it's dual climate control or manual a/c to get the actuator.

Its manual (not digital) and the car has no dual climate control. Checked the refrigerant charge level, and all is well. Whats weird is, all the vents blow equally as hard, just not as cold...

Re: 98 GT, Weird AC problem
you may have some mildew and/or mold built up on your evap core that is restricting the cool air to the drivers side. Interdynamics makes a cleaner that you can spray in the heater box to clean the buildup off the evap without removing it from the car. I used to work at Advance Auto parts, and I know they carry it.
