Angry P10 Central Locking Problem

Parents own a P10 and they are having problems with the central locking.
As you are driving along the road all the doors will automattically lock for no reason except the drivers one.
Even when you park the car in the shed etc you can come back later and the doors will be locked.
This will happen nearly every time you go out.
I have just taken it out myself and it done it.
He's taken it to a garage and they told him it was a safety device that comes with the car...LOL (yeah right) and they put some CRC on the door locks.
Anyone had this problem before ?????

Cheers

Here's a pic of his car

Yes, this is a somewhat common problem. I haven't had it, but I've read about it before. When Infinity USA had its owner's bulletin board, it was mentioned a number of times. Unfortunately, I cannot remember what the consensus was regarding a solution. I'm sorry. I know that's not all that much help other than the fact that someone should know an answer. <S>

It amy be the normal operation of the security system (if you have one). The driver's door doesn't have a factory lock motor, so I had my installed, and now when I start the car, the doors lock in about 30 seconds and open as soon as I turn off the ignition.

I have not heard of the problem Geo is describing, but my second guess would be that something has been spilled onto the lock/unlock button between the seats.

Third gues - the relay gone bad. I don't think there's anything else affecting the locks...

Good luck

I would take out the button and, after securing the wires, drive areound a bit without it. If the problem disappears - it's the button, if it persists - almost certainly the relay...

I believe it had something to do with the control unit. I think it was the time control unit. But, my memory is a bit fuzzy. You'd have to check the FSM's wiring diagrams to see what is controlling it.

I had a problem on my P10 T4 Primera with the locks (except drivers door) popping open all the time and couldn't lock the car.

Driver's door does not have a servo, only a switch, since you always lock this door with the key as these primeras don't have keyless entry. Thats also why the central locking doesn't work when you lock the other doors as they only have servos and no switch. If you wanted keyless entry you would need to get a servo installed in the driver's door................but anyway....................

Since my locks were popping open this indicated the servos in the doors were ok.......something was telling them to open. So I pulled out the door lock switch from deep within the bowels of the drivers door and operated it both ways, then unplugged it, while checking to see if the other doors would stay locked. Still no luck!

However while operating the switch, I could hear a relay clicking down under the dash. This indicated the switch was working ok so I traced the noise to the drivers side kick panel. I removed the panel and discovered a black box called the door lock timer. I unplugged the timer and found that I could now lock the doors manually and they would stay locked.

NZ$65 bought a second hand door lock timer black box from Nissin' King in Hamilton and problem solved. If you ask real nice they might let you plug the box in first to see if it works (something they don't usually allow in case some other fault blows the black box).

In your case the locks are operating by themselves so that indicates the servos are working and you can operate the locks from the drivers door so that indicates that the switch is working. The fact that the car locks itself after a period of time sometimes when parked or erratically when driving suggests to me that the little black box is to blame. Maybe even a loose harness plug on it. Otherwise the timer is simple to replace, just unplug the old and plug in the new.

Hope this reaches you in time to avoid the Nissan workshop bill. Let us know how you get on.

Lightbulb P10 Central Locking

Primera Man..........Kia Ora

I'm in Hamilton, where are you?

Hey I've got the old door lock timer I took out of our P10 here. The sticker on it says:

DOOR LOCK TIMER
28451 89971
12V
Niles Japan
Don't Drop

If you like, and the numbers match up, I could sent it to you and you could try plugging it in your parents P10. If the problem they have (doors locking) turns into the problem I had (doors not locking), then I guess that would confirm that the timer is the culprit before you splash out on a replacement. As I stated earlier, a second hand replacement cost me $65 although I'd hate to think what the stealership would charge. The whole swap can be done in less than 5 minutes with nothing more than a couple of screwdrivers.

From Palmy North.

Thanks again for the help.
He got back to me and said he had found something similar to what you said and he had removed the plug and given it a clean up etc and plugged it back in.
Later on tonight he rang back to say it had not been doing it.
Wonder if it may have been a bad terminal ????
Fingers crossed !!!
