żżż 5th gen or 6th gen ???

im planning on buying a civic around the 4,000 - 5,000 $ range. I dont know whether i should get a 5th gen civic or a 6th gen. and should i get a hatch. after i buy the car i plan on swapping in a b16a2. which car would be the best for going about doing this?

in the many magazine articles i have read it seems like the 5th gen ex/hatch is the best for doing the swap. i have also heard that the 6th is no different from the 5th gen (swap wise).

i like how the 6th gen looks better than the 5th gen (especially the hatch) and that i could most definately find a 6th gen in better condition than a 5th gen civic. but would it be harder to do the swap with a 6th gen? do i need any specific type of part, such as axles, for either the 5th or 6th gen b16 swap?

IF you like 6th one better than get it. Your budget might be off for a 6thgen tho. It seems to me that everything for EKs is more expensive than for EGs. But the same engine will bolt up to both, except that w/ EK you have to have OBD2.

again if you find EK for 5K, more power to ya. OBD2 will allow you to run 96+ ECUs w/o a problem. but if you want P28 or pre 96 integra Ecu, you will have to have some harness.
OBD2 means also more O2 sensors and other emissions crap

yea.....ii agree w/ the other guys......the ek definately looks better in my opinion but you have a smaller choice of motors you can swap in.....of course w/ 10 grand....you could probablydrop in a b18c5 or something.....but it's all up toyou......eg has less emissions you have to deal w/......

i've been thinking and i'll probably get a later 5th gen (94-95). so i can have more $$ for tuning. also, to me it seems they have the most aftermarket support. i just think an EK would be more work, swap-wise anyway, and take more cash than to do the same stuff w/ the EG.

since this is going to be my first car, do you think i should go with the swap, or just get a turbo w/ all the goodies (t-timer, boost controler, IC, internals)?
dont get me wrong. i would love to get the swap and put a lot into it, but it seems like it would be a big hassle say if something went wrong with the b16 and have to wait on parts from jpn, cuz it will be an everyday driver and my $6/hr. wont help either.

Unlike all of you, i like EG hatch. I got one and i think that EK looks ghay. Just my 2 cents. N E way, If you want swap right away, i would suggest getting a nissan 240sx and the SR20DET motor. make it a silvia (Like your name!!!) ! It would destroy a EG/EK w/ a swap, assuming you're putting the same budget in both.
Just something to think about.

I'm gonna have to agree with kane on this one, 240 with a swap rips it up. Plus they're rwd.

BTW, don't you have to move a motor mount or something on a 6th gen??

my original plan was to get a 240 and get the sr20det (notice my username), i looove 240's and the fact that they're rwd drift monsters, but i realized that it would be much more work than it seems.
mentioned b4, i dont exactly have the money for doing that either, so i figure get the EG first & then for my second car i will get the 240

if your're panning so sinking 10K into a civic, go for it, but You could pick up 240sx for really cheap and get the front clip for about 2200.
Add about 2K in misc parts and for about 6K you can kick some Honda Ass, no matter what they run.

I picked up my ek 96 cx hatch in april for about 5,000 its red and had a bout 60,000 miles on it. Only problems are there is a hole in the muffler and check engine came on but I took care of both of those. The guy wanted 6,000 and I got him down to 5500 and I was going to buy but he told me on Tuesday that on Thursday he was moving back to France. So on Wedensday night I told him I only have 5000 and by that time he had to sell it to me for that price because he didn't have any time to try to sell to anyone else. Underhanded-yes Sneaky-maybe but I got my hatch

If you ever get the 240 its NOT necessary to swap an SR20DET motor in it. I'm getting me a 240 ( still keepin my rex ) and build the KA24 engine. More torque and cast iron block. SR20DET motor is good cause u can bore it out more than the KA24 BLAH BLAH BLAH. I'll let u know more about it if u ever get the 240sx. Ppl think that they have sr20det motor swap doesn't mean they'll "rip" hondas apart!

assuming you have the same budget, the 240 would be better deal. I would swap redtop sr motor and upgrade the turbo to get better Hp numbers than any honda with the same budget. I have bought 2 240, one for 70 bucks - bad motor, 5 speed trans in good shape and the other was 150 w/ good motor and auto but wrecked. I am planning on getting another one which i spoted for 100 w/ good Ka24de motor and auto. All the motors are going to be junked and srs are going in. I would have sr powered 240 for about 5K, which is what this guy just payed for his civic. That puts me thousands ahead of him plus i got turbo.
The only reason that i am not going the Ka route is because i want turbo, and upgrade for the KA would cost a lot more than the SR swap itself.
