Shudder at full steering lock

Hello

When my 97 Explorer is at full or near full lock it feels like the breaks are on and if you put your foot down on the gas a bit it shudders forward. When going straight the shudder disappears.

Any ideas

Its through the seat of my pants the steering is smooth but the whole car shudders. The tighter the lock the more it struggles.

No complaints here. Denver has not been hit by any hurricanes yet....

I've been doing a little reading on the dvd stuff. Not much yet, got interested in football, and been watching some games.

I like your new Merlin graphic, kind of fits. Thats what it feels like when you are trying to figure out someones "noise".

You haven't maded many appearances here lately?

sounds like you have a problem in your rear diff., if it has limited slip, which most of those expl. have. go to a large parking lot and go in circles, apply the brakes firmly and hit the gas hard. a limited slip diff works based off torque applied to the rear wheels. if you feel it shudder bad when doing this, it is the clutch packs in the diff. try to service the diff and put extra friction modifier in the diff. i would put in the motor sport stuff, it seems to work the best.

Its an auto 4x4 system that gives more traction to the rear until the front looses traction or under heavy acceleration then it evens it out automatically. The electronic switch on the dash changes it to 4x4 50% front 50% rear and then in to 4x4 low gear. My mechanic mate says it might be the transfer box. Can i check that.

does it shudder under hard accel. just going forward? your tcase clutches on the auto type tcase will run up the percentage it is on under hard accel.there is a electromagnetic clutch in there. it helps to prevent wheel slippage. if you do not feel any shudder going forward, but does when turning, i would look more at the diff. just go add two bottles of friction modifier to it and go drive in tight circles for some time and see if that helps.fric.mod. is cheep.

No shudder on acceleration. Can you just add the friction mod or do you need to drain some oil out?

Thanks for the help by the way
