Need help matching a color...(new car)

So as not to be off-topic here, I'd like some suggestions as to what paint would match the color of MY MUSTANG!! That's right, I finally got a Mustang. It's a 2000 GT 5-speed in Bright Atlantic Blue. It's almost completely stock (K&N air filter and Flowmaster mufflers) and the engine is completely unmolested. Now back to the topic, any clue on how to match this wonderful color??

awesome car kat. have you and will run 'em yet? i heard he got an LS1 car....I love the sound of a 4.6 mod motor with exhaust. lol. you might try to start with boyds true blue pearl. maybe over a black base to darken it a bit.....not sure though

It's actually a lot lighter than it looks in pictures. I would compare its color to blue anodized aluminum. If anything, maybe the blue pearl over silver...Or, has anyone tried Krylon's "metallic" looking paints on a model? And yes, Will got a '99 Hugger Orange SS Camaro. His is faster, by far. We haven't raced, but I know he'll win, by like, cars and cars.

And dude, I totally agree with you on the sound. This one sounds wicked. It's just about perfect, not too loud but you know it's a V8. It makes me giggle at 4k rpm.

welcome to the club... its a poison i tell you. once you get one you'll never be able to not own one. as for the camaros... don't be too surprised.. a few minor mods and an excellent launch will definately give an average LS1 at least a run for their money if not taking out a bad driver.

as for the color, boyd's true blue is way too dark. I actually think just straight up testors Blue or maybe Light Blue (or a mix thereof anyways) would be a pretty decent match. I painted a corvette a WHILE ago in the plain blue and it actually turned out fairly bright. unfortunately, the model is at home and im at school. if you still need it, i'll try to snap a couple pictures when i have our fall break in two weeks.

*EDIT* just looked around a little bit. I think the blue I painted with was the testors Bright Blue - that will probably be a much closer match.

OT: I'd say paint it black, it would look very mean and sinister, or a very dark red would look good too.

You Might Try Going To A Ford Dealer And Asking The Parts Guys For Touch-Up Paint.
If They Don't Have Any,While Your Allready There,Try The Bodyshop
And See If They Can Mix Some Up for You.
Thin It Down And Get Out Your Airbrush And Go To Town(lol)
Keep In Mind That We Will Expect A "Top Notch" Replica From You!

I searched for months to find this color. Red and black are exactly what I didn't want. Compare numbers - 39k came in red, 38k came in black, 4k came in this blue. It's special.

I'm gonna have to hold off on replicating my own car for about...6 months. I suffered a recent tragedy with my "quickie" 2002 Corvette that requires a repaint, the C6 is proving impossible because I can't find what I need in town to finish it, and the Enzos are really starting to weigh on me. My dad's Chevelle has gone from a Christmas present to a birthday present (moving the due date from December to May!). I also plan on adding a few peices to the 1:1 car and having it touched up, so I'll just use whatever the paint shop has left over to paint it. Oh yeah, and then there's that school thing. I should be modelling in Autocad as we speak.

redstang, thanks for the suggestions but this color is a very intense pearl. I don't think I'll be able to match it with modelling paints.

lol my bad, i misread the whole thread, i thought you wanted to repaint your mustang :P I honestly have no idea.. check with cobracolors, they have lots of manufacturer paints

is it really that much of a pearl? that color was the color of the mustang i was gonna get until i was actually was able to find one in the performance red. i didn't remember the bright atlantic blue to be that much of a pearl, but that was also almost 5 years ago now, and i didn't have as good of an eye for color differences then.

your best bet would probably be ordering touch up from a ford dealership (color code K7 if you didn't know already). other than that, if you want to try to replicate it, maybe a base of sky blue with the testors blue pear over it or maybe a clear blue and then the pearl clearcoat over that all. that might at least get ya close?

and to show how special the car color is, the production numbers for certain Y2K colors, black was 39,791; silver was 37,617; laser (dark) red was 33,804; white was 32,606; performance (bright) red was 17,764; (dark) atlantic blue was 11,873; and bright atlantic blue was 4,979. the only color produced in less volume was zinc yellow, but thats because it was only available as a special edition that year (the spring feature GT). the other special thing about those colors is that they were all available in other model years - 2000 is the only year bright atlantic blue was available.

Bright Atlantic Blue was available in 99-on around 1,000 cars. It was also available on some SN95's but I'm not sure on the years. There's one running around here in College Station, somewhere. It really has a ton of pearl in it, it glows in the dark.

i dunno but here's an idea:

Duplicolor's Metalcast line has a primer that i guess is supposed to make the color look aluminum, so you could try that. it's a pretty tricky paint to get right, though. also, that suggestion, i'm not sure if it will work. i just assumed that if the Metalcast line is supposed to make it look anodized, and there is a primer made for it, then the primer and paint together should look anodized.

eh yea i forgot about the 99's and 98's - i normally dont miss that stuff - i checked up and its 1048 cars for 99 and 7074 in 98. for some reason i was thinking those cars were the bright blue (code KF) that used to be offered on the earlier SN95 models. in case anyone else really cares.
