tattoo symbols and meanings

i'm wondering if any of you out there have any books or websites that might be able to define or give the meanings of symbols ranging from Chinese symbols to mayan gods or designs. i'm going to get a tattoo soon and some of these are pretty interesting and i like the way they look. i just don't want some stupid sh*t on me for the rest of my life.

any help would be great. i'm not limiting myself just to like 2 cultures or anythingl ike that. ANYTHING is up for consideration, Native America to Aztecan symbols. stuff like that. thanks

Yeah, get a tattoo in Chinese or Japanese characters. It's really original.

Or get a nice tribal design, they're quite original too.

i know that everyone and their mom has them.

i'm trying to find the meaning behind them that way it can mean something to me. i'm not talking about tribal bands and ish like that. i don't want that. half the people that get the chinese characters or something like that don't even know what it means.

i'm not going to put something on me if i don't know what it means.

I wouldn't trust anybody who isn't Chinese or Japanese with a symbol like that. Who knows, they're probably putting some symbol on you that means "I'm a gay american"

yeah, that's why i'm probably going to hold back on a symbol like that.

i really like the mayan artwork and stuff like that. i can't seem to find much on it though in our public libraries. i was hopin maybe some of you all good help me out. simple things like, what certain animals symbolize...stuff like that.

Dude.. that's pretty lame. Why do you want Mayan characters tattooed onto you when you don't know a thing about them? You'll just be a poser.

I have wicked child in kanji on my neck but i made sure from a few books and websites first that it was for sure what it said. also he wont be a poser who cares its your body screw what others think.

just reminded me heard on xm comedy today.

"This girl had a tatoo with chinese lettering on it and i was like hey what does that mean. 'I dunno. it just looked cool.' ... Luckily there was a chinese guy walking by at the time so i asked him and he said the symbol was '#47 Kung pao chicken'... hmmm. I hope that's you're favorite meal sweetheart."
