Finally finished my Ferrari 612 Scaglietti What a pain in the butt!
Right down to the wire.
I was approached by a fellow modeler last year to a Ferrari build-off. I chose the RoG Ferrari 612 Scaglietti. UGH, parts fitment was not the best on my kit, and got to the point that I would have to "will" some pieces in. I will be taking this to the Model contest tomorrow. Rumor has it the challenger did not finish his build. ![]() ![]() ![]() I tired a bunch of new things out. First time using Cobra Colors (Nero Daytona Metallic), and first time polishing a kit out. The pics make it look great, but their are some fine scratches in it that I cannot get out. All a learning experience. This kit took me just over three months. I did take a few breaks from it though. Have fun at the contest!
Looks good to me, most people have said there is some parts warpage especially in the chassis, mine has some but not nearly as much as some of the others. As for polishing, black is one of those colors that simply requires more elbow grease to get looking right. You have to get some friction while buffing the paint, it's the heat from the friction that helps melt the outer surface, and black simply requires more effort to hide those small scratches. It's especially hard when you choose black as the first color to buff out My Scag is going very slowly because of unending paint problems with the hood, first from ghosting of the filled vents (Viper hood), to multiple color and clearcoats that ended up getting dirt/hair/fibers in the very last coat which were too big to be polished out... It very nearly met it's demise last week.

Thanks guys! I can tell from the luke warm response that the Scag is not a favorite among builders/car fanatics.
Anyway, onto the show. I did very well. The Judges didn't believe I painted the car, they thought I buffed out prepainted plastic! I won an award for best paint as well as first place in Box Stock with my Ferrari. So apparently I was being too hard on myself. The judges loved it. The Lamborghini Countach I took recieved 2nd place in box stock and my Rally car took first place in Competition. The stunner of the day was my son. He's 11 years old and he walked away with Peoples Coice in the Junior division and took first place with his Camaro. That was the highlight of my day. Chris |

Looks great, I completely forgot I had one of these kits in progress. I pulled it out last night and started working on it again.
seems like everyone who's built this kit has paint problems, luckly mine was'nt with the body, but with the interior, I actually mistakenly used Enamal over Laquer. and the enamal actually pealed off. I gave up on a two toned interior and I'm just painting the interior straight black. |

Thanks Chris.
Very nice, I've built one of these as well. I really should dust it off and change or refinish the wheels. That is if the tires haven't split. it has been on the shelf for 20 (!) years...
