Misfire Cyl. 1

Mother in laws 96 lumina had several different codes all pointing to Cylinder 1 misfiring. Replaced Plugs, wires, coils, Control module, and 2 bottles of injector cleaner, still missing. Thought I was going to have to replace the injector when a friend told me to take a large wrench and tap on the intake manifold while at idle.

Not only did it quit missing the check engine light went out about halfway home!!!

Re: Misfire Cyl. 1

that was a temporary solution. I would suspect the #1 injector is bad, and when you tapped on the manifold, it freed up. You may be lucky and now that it's working, the injector cleaner will keep it freed up, but I doubt it.

Well thats what I thought so I didnt post it right away. It has been 6 weeks now and (knock on intake manifold) no more missing no more codes!!

I'm assuming that crude builds up in the injector and tapping on it helps to dislodge it.

Re: Misfire Cyl. 1

wierd how acually beating on something sometimes helps. I'd run an injector balence test, and if they are off alot from eachother, just replace all 6, since its a bitch to have to rip into that pleunum and rail
