Why you shouldn't use paypal.

This is off topic but just wanted to share a experience I had with paypal and the reason why you guys should not use them. As many of you know I sell F-body merchandise threw ebay and used paypal and thought it was a great service cause they allow you try process buyers payment for a fee and protect you against fraud on chargebacks or at least I was told this. So I was very confident in using them, well unfortunetly there are alot of nuts out there who attempt to rip people off and I unfortunetly had the pleasure of coming across one of these people. He purchased a driveshaft from me, which I buy from a supplier who warrantys these driveshaft to be dent free and straight from 90 days of when I recieve them or they will give me another driveshaft in its place or my money back. I also insure the shipping for double of what the person pays me for them. So if I run into a problem with a customer stating there is a problem with the said driveshaft or whatever else, but in this case a driveshaft it is covered completely and I am not liable for any out of pocket expense or so I thought. So I sold one to a member of another site that we both belong to and he lives very close to me about 30 minutes to a hour. He recieved the driveshaft and sends me a IM on aim and states that one of the U-joints cap had come off on delivery and despite it being insured threw UPS and having to go threw a hassle for that tiny charge, I say no problem. I will shoot you a paypal payment for a new U-joint just provide me with a receipt, just don't go overboard. He agreed this was fair and bought one told me the cost to which I said thats fair don't bother with the receipt and paid him. So everything is honkey dorey for 2 days and I get another IM, this time stating he wants a new driveshaft or his money back. I say why, he says look at these pics of the driveshaft you sent me, its all scratched up around the U-joint area that I had to replace. To which I am thinking, he must be kidding. I can completley see a U-joint cap falling off but I personally check and wipe down all of the shafts I sell and make sure they are without any major imperfection before they go out because I get a replacement or my money back if thats the case and its very simple to handle. You can clearly see by the pictures he sent me that he did this with a screw driver or something similiar trying to get the U-joint C clip on or off. I state to him that if he wants a refund or replacement to drive to my house like he was originally going to do to pick it up and let me see it in person cause judging from those pics there is no way that was damaged that way from prior use in a vehicle or from my shipping cause I pack them pretty carefully. He gets all offended but hell I know he is lieing. I then tell him if he does not like that to contact UPS, its insured and they will cut him a check within 5 days (they have for me in the past when I have had a problem despite whats going on with Kasey and Philly) . To which he states well, if it wasn't damaged in shipping that would be fraud right. I tell him yes, he then states I would like my money back or a replacement then and if you won't give it to me then I will just contact paypal. To which I say thats fine, I have seller protection and you clearly told me that the item arrived in excellent condition and they will see the payment I sent you to replace the U-joint which is the exact area in which you damaged it and I have proof of this and pictures of the items prior to sending it out , like I always take. So he contacts them and they shoot him down and tell him sorry but the seller provided us all the info and you have the merchandise and we believe him. So he contacts his credit card company. So paypal them tells me your protected. Just go ahead and resubmit all the info and we will dispute the chargeback but are temp placing a hold on the funds. So I am fuming now being without my money or my shaft and having to put my money out to pay for the shipping and the shaft but I wait for the investigation to which they then send me a email and state they have rejected our dispute on your behalf and we are charging you 10 dollars for fighting this for you but we will dispute it again and at very least we will get the merchandise back. Well to try and sum this up cause its way too long already. I just got off the phone with them and they never submitted any of the info I sent again to his card cause they said they are not allowed to submit attachments and my conversation with him was a attachment. Which they never told me, they said I am not protected by the seller protection like I signed up for because even if he is lieing it doesn't matter he claimed the goods was not recieved like stated and they said they will not be getting my merchandise back or getting the money back for the payment I gave him. They also will be keeping 20 dollars for all there hard work letting him keep my money. Needless to say I am not too happy with them and seriously think that for anyone wanting to sell there goods online, just deal with bidpay or M.O's. If your a honest person , it will be much less headaches and I honestly will never be dealing with them again and hope they go out of business even though because of there size it will never happen. To the gentlemen who stole my money and my shaft, I hope someone finally beats you to death with it. (sorry but I am bitter and thought I would share)

Re: Why you shouldn't use paypal.

No, despite him being the major cause of this. I will not do anything to him or his property despite what he did to me. I am at this point more upset with how paypal lied to me and is charging me to let him keep my money and goods despite all this protection stuff they claim to get you to sign up and use them. This was meant with more of a purpose to share and hopefully get some of the people who use them to stop and use another online transaction company because of the empty promised they give. Unfortunetly when your dealing with a company as large as paypal they will do anything they want cause they think there is nothing you can do about it. Well hopefully my sharing is doing something about it and I have personally paid way way way more to them in fee's for my incoming payments then them just paying me with there insurance would have cost them and keeping a customer but they decided to screw me, Well hopefully someone will learn from this before similiar happens to them.

John

Re: Why you shouldn't use paypal.

This does compromise my trust in PayPal, I now doubt that I will use them again. UPS has been on my shit list for months now too.

Re: Why you shouldn't use paypal.

Yeah I remember when I first used my PayPal debit card, I charged $100 to it. Well, the next day I went to check my balance and they ended up charging me 4 times for the $100. So I was out $300. Took me a good 30 mins or so to actually find a phone number on their site. I then called them and they said the merchant must have swiped the card 4 times, and they immediately refunded me my $300. Then, a month later, I got back the original $100 I spent.. for some odd reason. Pretty weird, other than that I've had no other problem with them, but have read dozens of stories about crap they've pulled on paypalsucks.com. Sorry to hear about that though John, it sucks knowing there are crooked people and companies like that out in this world, while knowing there's not much we can do about it. If I were you, I'd keep calling PayPal and keep complaining about the situation. It's like the old saying goes, the squeaky wheel eventually gets the grease.

Re: Why you shouldn't use paypal.

http://www.bidpay.com/ and western union all have online payment option for auction or there is always M.O's which will not cost the fee's to the sellers and for people using them. There are tons of places that you can pay for auction goods and they send a email to the seller stating they will send out a M.O. with a tracking number. I would love to see about contacting a bank and/or some other sort of company that would like to get involved and possible give competition to them cause I have had many other issues with paypal. Were they overcharged me for stuff or billed me several times for something and wouldn't release my funds for several days but this was like a last straw type thing and just so everyone is aware. I forwarded a copy of this to paypal . Cause I told them on the phone I was going to pass along there policy on handling these things to the members of AF.

Re: Why you shouldn't use paypal.

I am going to look into getting another payment company if paypal treats there members like the way they treated you. Thanks for posting that site John.

Re: Why you shouldn't use paypal.

That sucks man, I've never had a problem with paypal but there's a lot of shit in their legal documents you have to read and understand all of it to work the system right. I bought a corsa exhaust from this asshole in Ohio before and he sent just the muffler, ok I misread the ad on ebay. But it had a dent in it that a blind child couldn't miss so I call him, made an agreement, and send it back, but he never sent me my money back, so I was out 300 bucks because I used a money order. No way of getting it back, if I used paypal I would of had proof and they would have gotten me a refund. The only thing ebay did for me was suspend his account. Thanks guys, appreciate the help. I called him every week for almost a year before I gave up. I'm sure we're all on tight incomes here and have better things to spend 300 bucks on then some asshole.

Re: Why you shouldn't use paypal.

I agree, sometimes there rules can work for the better but I have been on both sides of the paypal game and can honestly tell you as a buyer and a seller in the past I have gotten screwed and infact paypal was sued due to the fact that if you had funds in your account and without reason they would put a hold on those funds and when there customer called to ask when they would be done with there investigation of whatever they were looking into. They would be told that they would hold and investigate them for a undisclosed amount of time. Meaning they were taking your money and would not tell you when you they would give it back and would ask for any information about you they would like and if you couldn't supply it. They would not release your funds which is illegal. They have done many horrible things to many people and even though there rules are less offensive to people buying the merchandise. The sellers are the one's taking a huge risk. Think about it, if your selling goods, why take the risk of someone paying you and then claiming whatever they want about the merchandise and even if you can prove they were lieing like I did to them and they supposedly protect you. They say sorry, credit card took the money your screwed. Its not right. I personally as a person who delivers the good I promise, its a shame I was treated this way and if they were just a little more concerned with the sellers this whole thing could have been avoided but instead, I am out for the listing fee, the shipping, the price of my merchandise, the fee they charge me for "processing a dispute to the chargeback" and the money I sent him for a new U-joint. I think anyone can see, thats not right.

John I agree with you 100% but what is going to keep bidpay from doing the same thing that paypal did?
