Possible transmission problem

I recently changed my read brake pads. After words my brake light kept coming on. I unplugged the negative battery cable think that the computer was messing up. I however realized the brake light was a result of having to much fluid in the resivior. Afterwards I started to notice problems with the transmission or so I think. The problem is when I shift from park to reverse or from reverse to drive, the transmissions seems to jump. The car is an 01 Alero 3.4 and has 113k miles. Any ideas would be very helpful.

Its possible that when you disconnected the battery you cleared the PCM computer of data. A lot of times you just need to drive it and let the PCM re-learn. It may take up to 200 miles. The PCM is what controls the tranny. When was the last time you had the ATF and filter serviced?

I have never had it serviced. My main concern is that it shifts very hard sometime but not everytime. Should I take this to a transmission person to get their input.

The Dextron-III ATF fluid should be drained out and a new screen filter put in around 100K miles under norming driving conditions and 50K under heavy use conditions. You can start by getting that done. The fluid is probably too old and degraded with the mileage you have.
