mandrel bend exhaust

Hey, I've got about $180 and its about time i got rid of that crappy pacesetter. I would like to get a 2 1/4 custom cat back with some type of universal muffler, but i can't find any exhaust shop that will do mandrel bent piping. They all look at me like i'm stupid, and tell me i'll never find anyone who does mandrel bend piping.

I'm located in Akron, Ohio and i've checked about everywhere around here and the Canton area. I did find a shop that argued with me telling me that I should just get 2 1/2 crush bent and it will be the same.

I dont know what to do. I'm looking for a nice sounding exhaust (with the gains). What should I go with and where should I get it done.

Any help is appreciated.

thanks

I live in Cincinnati and I got my custom exhaust at STR proformance. They are located out Rout 32 at the Batavia exit. They have a big yellow building on the right side of the road before the exit.
Sorry I have no phone number.

Crush bent will do the job and you probably won't notice the difference.

if I get the crush bent, should I make it 2 1/2 inch or just go with the 2 1/4 inch.

I'll prolly just get a dynomax or magnaflow muffler. Am i gonna need a glasspack to eliminate buzzing at high RPM? If so what should I get?

Thanks,
Joe

Unless you have some serious engine work done to be pushing out a bunch of extra exhaust gases crush bends will work just fine. Mandrel bends are better, but if you plan on 2 1/2 the crush bends wont affect it in a bad way.

2 1/2 sounds huge to me. Especially for a four-banger. Bigger isn't always better when it comes to exhaust. It sounds like an exhaust that large may not be able to accomadate such a small engine.

Exhaust

I have done a good deal of exhaust work and i did a good deal of research on the civics before i bent mine. I have access to a pipe bender that my unlce has and i do it myself and to me 2 1/2 inch pipe is too big for a civic unless you have a good deal of motor work done. The DC exhast and the other big names use 2 inch pipe. The biggest setup that i would put on our cars is 2 1/4 inch. The machine that i bend on dose crush bends. The bigger the pipe the more top end power you get. If you put a 3 inch pipe on your car it would bog like a mofoo taking off but it would have decent top end. IT also works the same way if you had a 1 inch pipe on you would take off like a bat out hell and you would be sucking ass for top end. I guess if i were you i would go 2 1/4 and no larger and have it crush bent.

Jmunk's post is bueno. Thats why you need to setup some sort of valve in your exhaust system that opens up as you climb up the RPM's. Well thats just a pipe dream LOL Get it Pipe Dream Nevermind Ive been in school to long today.

"Thats why you need to setup some sort of valve in your exhaust system that opens up as you climb up the RPM's."

Good 'ol JCWhitney sells exhaust routers, you could have a small system from one end and a larger one on the other. So when you switch rmps you can pull the controll cable to toggle between two exhausts. Of course it would to hard for a driver to controll this and drive/shift at the same time.

JCWhitney has been selling these forever, my Dad used to use these when he was a kid.
