95 for contor wont start.

I cant afford to take to a mechanic and i perfer to do some of the work myself or my brother to do it. Anyways the 95 ford contour wont crank when it did run i took it to midas they said i needed a new fuel filter and needed an injection cleaning. when it finally started to mess up and stop running all together it would stall in the middle of the road making all panel lights come one and the windshield wipers come on. It has been sitting in the DW for about a year now due to no help. I changed the fuel filter and it still wont crank i dont have a manual and dont know where much is on fords.( more of a chevy chic.) i read a post where the guy had to have the fuel pump changed well i dont think i want to go that route altho its cheaper in louisiana for the part it is $113. i can have the part put on by my brother.
Any ideas? could it be a cloged injector? if so where are they located.

Thanks

so it wont crank. Is your battery dead?

Could be a bad alternator and your battery is now dead.

Re: 95 for contor wont start.

no battery is new and has been fully charged as of recently.
I was thinking that about the altinator too then someone said the injectors might be clogged.

ok. in that case, it cranks, but doesnt turn over. did you check the fuel bleeder valve to make sure you have fuel pressure?

might try making sure battery connections are good. those connections can be awfully tricky. remove them and clean them up if there's any corrosion on it whatsoever. also, is air filter clean?

Yes the connections are clean and in tackt. The airfilter is new. It has a new fuel filter also. I believe it is not getting any gas to the engine is why its not firing. I changed the spark plugs and wires about 400 miles ago. Dont know what else it could be i dont want to belive it is the fuel pump. Praying its not that that would be impossible for me to deal with right now. Anyways where is the bleeder valve?

You might want to check your wires, the red ones that connect with postive on battery. There is a recall on wiring harness, lot of the wire insulation is cracked open. Since you mentioned wipers and panel lights coming on when its not suppose too. Mine are cracked bad on my 95. The little wires leading to fuel injectors are cracked bad on mine, make sure yours are not touching each other, there are 2 to each injector. Wires elsewhere maybe now touching due to insulation cracking.

Re: 95 for contor wont start.

It really sound like a fuel delivery issue. When it is quiet turn the key to the on position and listen very close to the back end of your car. do you hear a slight hum or buzz. That is your fuel pump. If you don't hear it you need to be sure you have power to it. If you do then you really need to look a cleaning it or replacing it. I believe you can pull out the back seat and pull the pump from there. I have not done this on this car but from other members it sounds pretty straight forward. There is a mesh screen that can get really clogged. If this issue was not sudden but started getting worse and worse it could really be a possibility. Check E-bay for parts. We all sell stuff there for good prices. Try cleaning it first. I agree with beyound laoded SE about the bleeder valve check. I am sorry I can't find my book to tell you where it is exactly. (Can anyone help with the location)?
Good luck my friend

Re: 95 for contor wont start.

The other issue is as Jeff said...wiring. I also have a 95 4cyl. The front wiring harness is something I am in pursuit of because ford wants an arm and a leg. I pulled the front section up piece at a time and wraped it with tape and pull wire loom on it to help till I find the part I need. If you look you will see that from the A/C on the left of the engine bay to the far right side that the wires are most likely fubared. One other little thought... under the engine about mid way there is a plug near the PCV valve. It is connected to the trans I think. Anyway i unhooked it to replace my valve and forgot to plug it back in. The engine would turn over but not start. The clips are brittle and broken but it stayed on.

Re: Re: Re: 95 for contor wont start.

[the fuel pump looks fairly new/clean and there was fuel in the white valve in the top hoses, so i dont think it is the fuel pump i think there might be a clogged injector in the engine somewhere
