New Customer to Cobra Colors. 1/43 scale Civic test.

I just ordered from Cobra Colors Saturday and whammy ! Wednesday comes and here is the paint ! It was...Fantastic! Paint ordered was Lamborghini Verde Artemis Pearl and ofcourse VX primer and Ultra Gloss Clear Coat. So here is my try at Cobra Colors. So far so good. Primer went out extremely well. I put it to the test and did some filling with Euro Soft and the primer handled it like a charm. Parts of the trunk were filled (spoiler holes). So far the model is in primer. Tomorrow I will test this beautiful paint out
I feel like its finally time to have fun with my Iwata

Another satisfied Cobra Colors customer

I hope that those wheels aren't the ones you're going to use......................

Now let's see some paint on there.

Nice, i did one of those a while ago for someone, but ended up keeping it since he didn't pay me. I strip the paint off with DOT3 Brake Fluid Comes off great.

Welcome to the Cobra Colors club!
It may be my monitor or your photo, but a proper coat of VX primer should look tan or beige.

This car was sprayed with VX primer.

If you try to spray plastic with a light coat of primer you will etch the plastic and ruin the body. Get a good few coats of VX primer on plastic before spraying the paint. If it feels a little gritty after spraying, I wetsand the primer coat LIGHTLY with 2000 grit to give a nice smooth color coat.

Verde Atemis is a very cool color.

Leon may have sent him the new gray primer he has . He's sending me and Wayne some of the new primer to try out vs. the VX primer.

New grey primer?!? I feel so out of the loop.

I'm almost out of VX, I'll wait to place an order til the new stuff is ready and tested by experts.

Yea, My primer is a bit beige. I guess it was the lighting/camera that made it look very grayish. I dont get what you mean by etching the plastic? Is that what happend to the plastic bumpers of my modifier? notice how it looks scratched around the lisence plate area in the back bumper and in the front the grill didn't take paint. It might be dust.

Here is a picture of my order.

So i should spray the primer very thick? Normally I would spray it with a mist. Luckily this is my test model Good thing it wasn't on my other model which i have put soo much work into modifiying.

Re: New Customer to Cobra Colors. 1/43 scale Civic test.

Did you wash these parts just before spraying?
That looks like a reaction with water.

I only ask as it happened to me when priming my 575. A little bit of water makes a big mess when you hit it with the airbrush.

You can sand that area smooth, and add a little bit more primer and it should be fine.

The primer alone wont cause etching if you apply it in medium coats.
Etching looks like spider webs under the paint, the plastic melts and separated under the paint and causes a yucky paint job. Sometimes the body is salvageable, sometimes not..

You don't have to have thick primer, but it should be a uniform beige color.

OOH, Yea i guess it was water. I sanded those spots down and now its even.

How long does it take you guys to spray a whole 1/24 scale car with primer. Its taking me forever to spray my Accord with primer

Hey! I appreciate everyone's favorable remarks. Thank you.

You should be able to lay on VX Primer as heavy as you want without causing any surface problems to the plastic. I always recommend the first coat be light to medium though, otherwise an initial heavy coat will be more likely to run without already having a layer down to "bite" into.

Matt, you're not out of the loop. You should see some new primer samples at the ACME meeting.
