Exclamation starter help

Well my car broke down yesturday and again this morning. So at first I thought it might be the battery or something lose or many other thigns. But it's the starter. Now Ihave to take out the stater in my 93 escort but I cant find where it is. The dude at discount auto parts siad its right under the battery but u have to go under neath to get it. Can anyone give me some directions on how to get it out and put the new one in... thanx in advance.

The starter motor isn't really under the battery, it's underneath the intake manifold towards the battery. It should be directly under the manifold (in the back of the engine), it's most likely dark rust colored, a cylinder maybe 3 inches in diameter. Here are the removal steps:

1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

2. If equipped with an automatic transmission, remove the kickdown cable routing bracket from the engine block.

3. Disconnect the starter cable and push-on connector from the starter solenoid B and S terminals. (Disconnect the connector at the solenoid S terminal by grasping it, depressing the plastic tab, and pulling the connector straight off to prevent damage to the connector and terminal)

4. Remove the upper and lower starter motor mounting bolts. Lift the starter motor up and remove it from the engine.

5. Installation is the reverse of the removal steps. Tighten the mounting bolts securely.

Good to hear that is wasn't anything major. Also, even if the starter wasn't the problem, it probably would have blown soon after anyways, so it's just as well that you replaced it now.

Start you own thread instead of hijacking an old thread that has nothing to do with your car. It is unfair to the rest of us to have to spend time reading an old post that is irrevelant to your problem. It is also less confusing when a thread is about one car's problem.

Looking forward to seeing your thread about your car.

Re: starter help

good grief... and this after he asked where the fuse link is.

If you are unable to follow the instructions and advice given here, just take it to a shop. It sounds like it will be a quick diagnosis.

fordguy12-

To start your own thread.
Look at the bottom of the list of threads and you will see a button or link called "new thread". Click it. Fill in the title and in the message box type your question and provide as much information as you can. Don't forget to let us know the year, what motor, and if it is an auto or a manual transmission.
