Question S14 or S15 SR20det engine?

I am going to be getting a 95 or 96 240sx, and i am planning on getting the sr20det. the only problem is i cant decide between the s14 and the s15. the s14 has a larger aftermarket support, but the s15 has the 6spd tranny with higher HP than the s14. any comments? advice? thanks in advance guys.

it depends what you want. the late model S14 SR20 is very similar to the S15 version. if you want huge power then you're probably better off with a 5sp box and either motor because you'll end up changing lots of stuff and destroying the 6spd. if you want a light to medium tune streeter then a S15 would be preferable, but change a few things and they are almost the same.
i hope that helps.

I'd say with the money you save from buying the S14 you could out power the S15 and with a little more out handle it.

6 spd is weak compared to the 5 spd manual...

S14 has more aftermarket support b/c it has been out longer...

hence...go w/the S14 SR...or the S13 SR for that matter...!!!

I thaught about the same as I'm getting a Nissan soon too. So I asked Heavy Throttle Performance for advice and that's what I got:

The S15 is the same engine as the S14 except for the turbo and the 6 speed tranny. The injectors are 480cc instead of the 370 in the S14. I think it would be easier to simply get the parts and upgrade the S14 engine.

Additions: 6 speed manual transmission. The 6 speed can be used on the S13 and S14 motors with no modification using the S15 driveshaft.

Well the injectors are available on aftermarket and if you want exactly an engine like that of the S15, you'd have to buy a S15 turbo (is available but rare).

For myself I'll go with the S14 engine and tune it up maybe an exact copy of the S15 or something similar.

Hope I could help you a bit.

the 6spd tranny isnt all that weak, it can reliable withstand 400bhp without any major modifications to the tranny. its weak with drifters, cause they end up breaking them (as they do with most transmissions) i'm am almost sure i'm going to go with the S14 sr now. i'm planning on doing a few mods, intake, exhaust, new turbo, kaaz or nismo lsd, any other suggestions?

If the 6 spd isnt weak...then why do guys in JAPAN swap trannies? Answer that...and I know it's not b/c they want one less gear...it's b/c they want added strength.

Or for about $15k...you can get yourself a sequential gear shift tranny...how's that? LOL...

1...2...3...4...5...6!!!!

I always wondered about those sequential shifters. When you want to shift into neutral, do you have to go all the way down through all the gears to get to it or what?
Because what if you wanted to use the "double clutch" method used in racing where they blip the throttle in neutral to bring the revs back up a bit so they aren't lost during shifts. How would they get into neutral so fast?

Thanks

nissanspdr, i answered that. the 6spd is weak for drifters, they prefer the older 5spd cause it will hold up better to the harsh drifting ways. the 6spd isnt weak for power though, both of the tranny's can withstand 400bhp stock.

and i decided against the S13 cause its to old, they generally have higher miles, no vvt, and it doesnt bolt as easy into the 240's.

They aren't really that old. I e-mailed the people at http://www.neishlinmotors.com/ to ask for some prices on their redtop SR's and they seemed pretty reasonable. They have this one red top SR with 9656km/6000miles. Yes, only 6k miles on it! And they only charge about $3,300, and this is for the complete front clip, not just the motor. And also it bolts directly into the 240 without any modifications so it's no harder than any other SR's

but no VVT and only 6k miles on a 10 year old engine sounds a bit strange to me (IMO)

BTW when did you send them an E-Mail 'cause I'm waiting already 5 days for an answer?!?

I e-mailed them on May 3rd and got a response on May 4th. pretty fast response.

I read somewhere else that you said that you got a fast response from srswap.com
When I e-mailed them it took them 3 weeks to e-mail me back! I guess sometimes you just get lucky and they read your e-mail first.
