Shocked Mustang Owner

I was browsing the forums and came across this thread in the mustang forum. Thought everyone would get a laugh from the kind of work they gotta put into their V6's to make them competitive against a GT (and keep in mind this guy had a standard tranny).

Thanks for the post, we Pontiac owners always like it when someone smokes a Mustang. They don't call it Pontiac Excitement for nothing!

The best 1/4 mile and 0 - 60 mph times I've seen from the old magazines for a stock '97 - '03 GT is 15.9 secs with high 80 trap speeds. 0 - 60 mph - 7.7 secs. But it probably varies depending on who did the test and the conditions.

Re: Shocked Mustang Owner

yeah so with that info then its obvious that the guy is probably a 16yr old who just got his liscense and cant drive. because a manual 99-04 v6 stang should run a mid 15. so even if he loses to the gp he shouldnt be getting killed... maybe that gp had some mods done to it.

Should run and what it does run are two different things. Both cars seem evenly matched in stock form. And in the end the deciding factor will probably be the driver.

But in this case and as the Mustang owner put it, he got beat.

I'm not bnaylor, nor am I an expert on cars, but I can help you on this one. There's a sticky about the supercharger idea at the top of the forum. Basically, you need to do an overhaul of your engine to put the GTP supercharger on and not kill your engine. There are turbos and other superchargers available for our engines, but I have a feeling you don't want to spend that kind of money. As for cheap mods, there are some you could do. First would be to put a Cold Air Intake or Fenderwell Intake in, the CAI would be a little more effective but the FWI would be dirt cheap. Also, you could get the U-bend in the exhaust replaced by a straight pipe, or just get a custom exhaust put on. You could also order a DHP chip, that adds 10-12 hp if I remember right. Thats all the basic stuff, the real mechanics on here can help you with the stuff like replacing cams and all that other stuff I don't quite understand yet.

Re: Re: Re: Shocked Mustang Owner

I'm not an expert on Grand Prixs either but I think BigBL87 is pretty much on target. Whatever mods you do will help and is relative to what you have to spend on it. The DHP PCM is a must to take advantage of any intake or exhaust mod.

Also I'd recommend a Hi-Flow CAT with 2.5 downpipe and 2.5 out to the stock mufflers over a CAT Back system. Delete the resonator or keep it if you do a lot of cruising or traveling.

If you have enough money go for headers. Its an easy 25 hp even on a NA Series II 3800. However, the install is a real PITA. I believe GTP Dad is still working on his and I just finished this past weekend.

Before I added a ZZP Phase 1 72mm throttle body and SLP headers my best ET is date was 13.68 @ 102 mph. 0 - 60 feet time of 2.09 secs. I'm taking it out this weekend for another time trial.

Whatever you decide good luck and kill those Mustangs.

This is a 0-60 and 1/4 mile time I found at http://www.albeedigital.com/supercou...0-60times.html

1999 Ford Mustang Convertible V6 8.6 16.5

Thats a Ford website, so I doubt that the result is much higher than an optimum run. Seeing as its a convertable, its about 180 lbs. heavier than a hardtop, but thats not going to make a second difference in the 1/4 mile time. The site never specified if it was stick or auto, my guess is auto. Once again, I dunno if that would make a 1 second difference, maybe it would, I'm a newb to cars. I'm not tryin to start a flame war, like you said, I'm just providing test numbers.

My guess is for an stick, the 1/4 mile in bnaylor's edmunds.com article sounds right compared to the time I found for the auto.

Plasimatic, the guy who's mustang got beat, said this:
my stang is standard.he really beat me on highway more than take off.take off he was a car length in front

Now, most of the GP guys know that the GP's weakness is the top-end, so it seems wierd that if all the guy had on the GP was a CAI that he would pull the kid on the top end. I don't know much about 'stangs but I'm guessing they have a better top end than GP's do. Just food for thought.
