2000 monte carlo LS

2000 monte carlo purchased hit in the passenger side, had to have gm cut me a key off of the vin#, drove in and out of the shop for a month and one day with no warning it wont turn over, you can jump the starter cylinoid it will start but will die right away. the security light is flashing and an err message flashes on the radio??? we've replaced the ecm and several ignitions no changes.. please help

does the key the GM dealer cut for you have the chip in it? You key has to have a resistor pellet with the correct resistance, or the car will not start.

Did you do the security learn procedure...if not do this as follows. you must do this when replacing the computer or ignition switch/ lock cylinder

Turn the ignition switch to START. Hold it in this position until the instrument cluster telltale lamps illuminate (approximately seven seconds). Then release the ignition switch to the RUN position (the engine will not crank).

60. The Security and Battery messages will begin toggling.

61. The ignition key must NOT be disturbed for the next 10 minutes. When the 10 minute time period has elapsed, the Security/Battery telltale will become a solid battery-only lamp.

62. Turn the ignition to OFF. With the PRNDL display off, wait five seconds.

63. Turn the ignition switch to START and hold it in this position until the instrument cluster telltales illuminate (approximately seven seconds). Then release the ignition switch to the RUN position (the engine will not crank).

64. The Security and Battery messages will begin toggling.

65. The ignition key must NOT be disturbed for the next 10 minutes. When the 10 minute time period has elapsed, the Security/Battery telltale will become a solid battery-only lamp.

71. Turn the ignition switch to ON and wait 15 seconds before starting the engine.
