CAI? Warranty

Thanks GTP DAD for answering my pully question. I was also thinking of getting a cold air intake kit. What is the best CAI to get and will changing the pully on my SC and putting in a CAI void my warranty?

Re: CAI? Warranty

Federal law prohibits the dealer or the manufacturer to void your warranty when it comes to aftermarket parts. The act is called the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. See link below:

However, if you take it into the dealer for a warranty repair and they find that the aftermarket mod caused the problem then you're SOL. Regardless, they cannot void the entire warranty.

Thrasher CAI, DHP v1.0 PCM, SLP Headers,
3.25 SC pulley, CAIT GMAF, 2.5 DP/Hi-Flow CAT,
u-bend delete, 160 TS, ZZP Stage 1 72mm TB,
TB spacer, MSD 8.5mm wires, Autolite 104s,
Goodyear Gatorback Serp. & SC Belt,
Nitto NT555R Drag Radials

Re: CAI? Warranty

It has been suggested that a K&N filter is as effective as CAI. Smaller pulley and better breathing would call for , U-Bend delete, and a free flow cat...maybe?

Re: CAI? Warranty

be careful with K&N fiilters on MAF equipped vehicles. If you put too much oil on it after cleaning, it can muck up your MAF and cause all sorts of problems

Re: Re: CAI? Warranty

I agree with Richtazz. I've heard dealers are being real A holes with GM cars brought in under warranty for emissions problems with K & N filters either the drop in type or on a CAI.

I use K & N air filter oil spray part number 99-0516 on the K & N cone filter on my CAI.

If you follow the instructions and do routine maintenance such as cleaning the throttle body screen, air ducting, and MAF sensor hot wire element it will help. As a result, a lot of people on the forum run K & N air filters with little or no problems. That includes '04 and up GPs. But there is never a guarantee and you have Murphy's law to consider.

Instructions:
Spray evenly along each pleat holding nozzle about 3 inches away. DO NOT spray in a circular motion. Let air filter stand for 20 minutes.

Again, the dealer cannot void or not cover a warranty related item just because you use an aftermarket part such as a K & N air filter. The burden of proof is on them to prove it caused the problem.
