I may be crazy, but

I've read and heard that the SOHC Vtec is a cool swap. My single, flame-inducing question is : Can a guy who likes the convenience of an automatic keep his auto and do the Del Sol swap? Just wondering.

Absolutely, you can still swap the auto no problem.

So long as you have a D series auto tranny... and the motor you are putting in is a D series as well (or both B series etc) it will work -- MANUAL or AUTO!
