DIY Cockpit Simulator

WANTED: Used 1988 Toyota Corolla

http://cars.blogs.ca/2005/08/04/ulti...pit-simulator/

Man, how cool is this? He makes it sound so simple to setup. Wish I had the room and knowhow to do something like this. Hopefully he'll post some instructions or something.

He has got way too much time on his hands. He is quite possibly one of the biggest nerds ever.

I think I know a way he could get the guages to work. To bad I can't tell him.

Well, there is a BMW forum I frequent, that has some very smart members. One of the members created a dynamometer program for your computer that works off the sound of the engine. You just input the number of cylinders, weight of the car, driveline loss, etc etc, and the program does the rest. The point is that it can tell the RPMs of the engine from the pitch of the engine noise. If he felt like writing a similar program and building the hardware I'm sure he could make it work. The only info you would need for the speedo and tach to work for every car would be number of cylinders and the gear/diff ratios.

Pretty impressive and all for $10. He should end up working for the game industry.

I must say he did a very professional setup. Sure saved himself from buying one of those Cockpit game consoles you see at the video arcades.

One thing that is missing are the decals.

Still cool.
