Thumbs down Home Brew Vodka

So I'm still recovering from the eternal (or what I thought was) sickness endured buy only 6 shots of Home Brew vodka, mixed with pulp O.J.

That 6 shots of this Vodka was equally as bad, (or had equal affects) as my April 2004 sickness in the resulting night of 13 Carlton Cold Beers:

I stoped drinking at about 8:30, and by the time I got home around 2am (uni party) I was still pissed as a neut, I threw up, but not much. It wasn't until this morning at 9:45am that I awoke from a depressing sleep that was like I was stuck on a minature merry-go-round doing 100 revolutions per minute for 6 hours. I hurled, 4 times over 1 hour. The first there wasn't much, it was quite pathetic. The 2nd was everything my stomach contained. Which was half a pizza, water, corn flakes, and some biscuits and shit. After that I drank a large cup of water, that came back up, my 2nd attempt at the water failed with yet another toilet-hugging -Davo moment.

I gave up, and went back to sleep, which I awoke about 2:50pm.

I sat up, oh no... I ran to the dunny, I didn't hurl although I felt like it was inevitable, I sat down on the dunny floor, and I started to burn up like I was on fire. I broke out into an uncontrolable sweat all over my body; face, arms, chest, legs...everywhere.. I was dizzy, and my skin was burning.

This Vodka, not only made me extremly blind drunk, but dehydrated me to the point that it wouldn't let my body have any water, or keep anything in my gut. After the fire thing, I had water, and a lot of it over 2 hours, and it took me 3 hours before I could eat anything solid again.

The moral of this boring story is DON'T DRINK HOME BREWED VODKA.

Re: Home Brew Vodka

Just make sure that whoever makes it know's how to distill alcohol. He coulda blinded or even killed you, because your symptoms are indicative of a high methanol content. People that know how to make their own can make vodka even better than grey goose.

Re: Home Brew Vodka

Methanol can kill or blind you. Time to take a sample to the uni lab and have it tested.

Re: Home Brew Vodka

Don't drink any home brews unless you know the people who make it and are sure they know what they are doing. A friend made some "bathtub gin" once and all I had to do was take one whiff of it to know it was some bad shit. I brew my own beer and the first batch i ever made(as a greenhorn) smelled so bad that i was afraid to drink it. Home brewing can make some very decent stuff but if you don't have the recipe, sanitization, and processing down to perfection you can seriously do damage to yourself. What you describe definatly sounds like a way high methanol content. Congrats on the experiance. Peace-

I've home brewed beer too, but it smelled to nice, like a pub, but it tasted like shit.

Yea after a while I've learned that with home brewed beers smell really doesn't mean anything because you (well I don't at least) don't pasturize the beer so it has living bacteria in it. I've made stinky beers that taste great stinky beers that taste like shit and basically every combo you can come up with. Home brew is great I end up paying like less than $.25 a 12oz. bottle vs. the $10-$13 for a 12pack at the store. Never tried to distill alcohol though(honestly don't wanna blow up my house) but I've had stuff thats like at least 150% alcohol and it will knock you on your ass, feels like drinking fire. I want to start kegging my beer but thats like at least a $1000 investment. A good investment but won't pay itself off for like at least a year. Peace-

Really now? I think you're refering to PROOF which is actually double the percentage of alcohol in the product. Proof came around when alcohol was first being distilled and in order for the alcohol to be "proved" ment that it could be lit on fire I.E. 101proof equals 50.5% alcohol which means it can burn because more than half of the liquid is alcohol. I guess you've never had real moonshine which is 100% alcohol or more. I've had it once and will never drink it again. That shit will make you go blind or give you alcohol poisoning way too soon for my liking. But, whatever. Happy drinking to all. Peace-
