what can sound like excess treble is actually high levels of clipping and THD (distortion). You're either not giving the amp enough power or you are over driving the inputs

Re: Gettin rid of treble

your amp should have a built in low pass filter

actually, a deep cycle battery (or 2) and a charger end up being your best source for the dollar. A 50-60 amp, 12 volt power supply is like $1000+ . Just don't use the stereo with the charger attached, and use one or the other power source - do NOT use the puter power supply for the deck and the battery for the amp unless you tie their grounds together.

Re: Gettin rid of treble

when i went to this stereo shop a few weeks ago, i saw this thing called a "power regulater" and it basicly converted AC to DC (i think thats the order, but u guys know what i mean) anyway it was like a battery charger but it was kinda MADE for stuff like that. anyway know what im talking about? or know where i can get one?

Re: Gettin rid of treble

yeah you can buy a power inverter that will supply you with 12V DC, but to get the kind of current you need it will be VERY expensive.

Re: Gettin rid of treble

which is why many PSU's in parallel is the vastly cheaper option....for the price of a AC to DC converter capebale of 40+ a of draw you may as well buy a plate amp.... good 500w plate amps can be had for $300 or less...

some power supplies are sensitive to voltage matching when you use several in parallel, I don't know how computer power supplies are. We have ones here at work that if you use more than one, the outputs have to be matched within .1V or one will pull all the load and the other one won't do anything.

Re: Gettin rid of treble

paul, when i had a single ATX PSU it would go into thermal shut down ALL THE TIME from over draw. after putting 2 in parallel this never happens, the amp will go into protect from clipping before the PSU's will shut down. one may pull the load untill the curent draw causes a voltage drop and the other starts to handle the excess load, i dont know.

Re: Gettin rid of treble

well i found some OLD computers. (8 of them) well the PSU's work GREAT i have a 800 watt amp, and the voltage wont drop almost at all!! with a huge hit from the sub. even bass tests, that usually take a lot of power, these PSU's r powerfull. i have 2 sittin here, if i hook 2 up to my amp, its to much power for the amp, so it goes into protection mode.

anyway thx about my camaro,
trust me you wouldnt want to trade! not that long ago, some so called 'friends' (that r little backstabbers) put suger into the tank, it went past the filter, and messed up the injecters, hopefully didnt get into the block. but no thx, i love my camaro, it was my first car, and also the car of my dreams!

Re: Gettin rid of treble

wow.. sugar in the tank... nice friends

and whats the RMS on the that amp? i doubt your pulling 800W off of 2 old PSUs, a 400E psu, that give out 400W its fairly expensive.
