Shakedown run

I finished some work on one of my project cars. Change my DD N/A Auto 90’ Supra into a turbo 5 speed on Friday and still have some kinks to work out. One of my friends stopped by tonight just to kick it. He has a 92’ Mustang 5.0 and wanted to see how the two cars paired up.

So we head down the street and get next to each other for a 1st gear 20mph roll. Now my since my car was an N/A the tach doesn’t work with the turbo wiring harness, so I still have to get that fixed. Anyways, I honk it down and on the third honk we take off.

40mph comes in a flash and I have to shift because I don’t know what my revs are, just to be safe. He’s got about a half car before we both slam 2nd and get squirrelly. 60mph comes and I shift into 3rd. After he hits third he pulls about another half a car on me and we stay even up until about 90mph when I shift into 4th and let off.

So it was pretty much what I expected to happen, only I thought I would pull on him slightly. I guess not!

My car is bone stock except for a cat back one of my friends let me borrow. He’s got a bunch of shit done though.

GT 40 upper and lower manifold
under drive pulleys
75mm mass air
bbk 70mm throttle body
bbk cold air induction
mac headers
bbk off road H pipe
single chamber flowmasters
24lb. injectors
1.7 roller rockers
after market chip
some short shifter
and some aftermarket clutch

Don’t worry though, I’ve got some parts on order Then we can have a rematch.

Man, this probably has to be the first racing story I've ever read from you. Congrats on finishing up the project. Supra sounds like it's going to be something when she's up to par. Nice . So what's the 5.0 running 1/4 wise??

Re: Shakedown run

I get into plenty of races, just that none of them are really worth posting about.

Actually some friends and I might be going to the track later today if it’s not too hot. It’s supposed to be 100+ so we will see. But we are probably low 14s right now.

Re: Shakedown run

Yeah, i'm interested too. Although, I wouldn't call your car stock if it's now a turbo. What turbo did you throw in there, and what fuel modifications were done, if you don't mind me asking. Sounds like a nice project car, congrats.

Re: Shakedown run

I didn’t get a chance to run tonight. When I was staging and I tried to roll up my windows…nothing happened. I was fucking pissed! So I couldn’t run because my window wouldn’t roll up. My friend with the 5.0 ran a best of 14.1 though, so I should be around there, as expected.

The car IS stock though, except for an exhaust. We pulled out the entire N/A motor and put in a turbo engine with a 5 speed. So it’s pretty much a stock turbo Supra now. The only thing different is I don’t have a boost gauge on the dash.

Re: Shakedown run

Did you ever get the tach working? I think if you did that and improved your shifts, you might beat him the way it is.

Re: Shakedown run

Still haven’t got the tach to work. I just have to change a few resistors on the board, but I am terrible with that kind of shit so I’ll have my friend do it.

Turned out I needed a new window motor. Apparently it broke on the way to the track! Oh well, I got one today and I should be good to go for next week.
