fuel level sensor
i have a2003 alero which is currently at the dealer getting a new fuel pump under extended warranty. my mechanic says i also need a feul level sensor, which isn't covered. if i haven't had any problems with my indicator light should i trust the mechanic or is this repair unimportant

For the money it would be a wise investment. If it goes bad later it will cost a lot more than it will now to have it replaced. I would go ahead and have it done.

Thats interesting. Sounds like the dealer is confused. On 2001 and up Aleros the fuel pump and level sensor are all one item under one unique GM part number. They are to be serviced together. The 1999 and 2000 models have a separate part number for the level sensor and fuel pump. The pump/sender part number for 2001 to 2003 is 22674713 or 22683260 and the GM list price is around $320. Even the fuel strainer is included under this part number. A little late but I thought you'd like to know. You might want the dealer to clarify this issue.
