My new plan (check for errors please)

Hi again, another question for you guys. Like I said in my other post I want a car as near to an s15 as I an get it but it doesn't look like it's meant to be. the way I want things, I'd pretty need to get all the mods up front and there is no way I can come up with 15,000-20,000 cash (tough when going to college) so here's my new plan and I'd appriecate you telling me where I'm off so I can modify my plan.

work my butt off and pay what I owe on my civic in the next 6 to 8 months (about 4,000 but it's doable if I say at home whith my parents)

sell for 6,000

find 97-98 (95 or 96 if nessisary) 240sx in very good condition and clean tite but with a blown engine. (I've seen them for 3-4000 on ebay so I'm thinking about 5,000 closer to my house)

get qualified for a 10,000 loan on the 240sx (I know I can with my credit union, they didn't even look at the civic I have now and I bought it through them)

spend the 6,000 on the 240sx, the taxes and licences for it.

this leaves me 10,000 dollars to have fun with :coolguy:

I buy a whole s14 (seen them go for 7000 with fairly small damage, just to be leagal they are cut in half)

and assuming it got t-boned (hopfully) I can spend the remaining $3000 to clean up my car (fix scratches), and to transfer:

engine (duh)
spoiler
wheels
rear brakes (get a kit for the front)
tail lights
what badging I can get (rest I can buy)
seats
gauges
(assuming the damge wasn't too great) door panels
steering wheel
shift knob, boot, hand brake and what ever other internals that will transfer to my car
aftermarket intake, exhuast and a LM intercooler (reason ahead) and an ECU that can optimize the cars performance and account for the larger intercooler so I don't stall at stop lights)

take off the headlights, front fenders and hood.

sell stripped chassis along with all of my old parts from 240sx on ebay or to a junk yard and hope to raise enough money to use the front end of the s14 and have it painted along with the spoiler to match my cars current color.

(I will now have as close to a s14 as anyone in the US almost)

Save up for brake kit, and coil-overs, sway bars and a decent stereo and buy as I go.

then save $5,000 (thinking college graduation here)

to convert my front end to and s15 and paint the whole car that sweet silver those silvias are painted (the LM intercooler fits behind this bumper too, that's why I'll probably get that one.)

So guy's where am I off?

since this will prolly be a 2 year project (or more) it's kinda important that I work out the majority of the kinks before I start spending money.

so will someone please respond? If it's because the post is long I'll do my best to storten it....

I would be pleased to help you but I got quite the same problem. I don't know how they treat loans where you live, here in Switzerland it's quite always a bad idea to take one. You got the money or you don't; that's how we live here.

not a bad idea

It is not a bad idea. In fact, you sound just like me. I took out a 15000$ loan. I still have a civic. I owe 5500 on my civic. I bought an s14 silvia for 4500$. I purchased an s15 conversion kit, carbon fiber hood, and sideskirts from vis all for 3200$ shipped. I then purchased my engine from jspecauto.com for 2050 shipped. It was red top, but if you plan to do any modifications, it just makes sense, plus you should get the 5 spd tranny which is stronger than the 6 spd. Jspecauto sends just about everything needed (engine, motor, turbo, side mount intercooler, uncut harness, and I believe all the neccessary small parts). My car is currently in the body shop waiting to have the kit put on and be painted for 3500$. I will take it over to my mechanic to drop the engine in, install my alarm, and add in my exhaust, downpipe, fuel pump, fan, and other small gauges. He claims that it should be around 500$, however I am sure it will be around 700$-800$. I shot over my budget by about 2000-3000$ but I will finally have the car that will make me drool every day that I open my garage rather than my civic. I am currently making payments on both loans. Talk about tough. Let me know what happens!!

I don't think it's that bad of an idea to take out a loan. Just as long as you have a steady job and where you can actually afford to make the payments on the loan, and then still have enough to live your everyday life.
Personally I would just want to wait until I get the money to pay for the whole thing at once instead of having payments.
