1999 Dodge Caravan Stalls while driving

Starts fine. Idels fine. Sometimes it drives fine, sometimes it acts like it is stalling when gas pedal is pressed. Sometimes jerks...lacks speed. The engine check light is on. From what little I know/have read in these forms it may sound like a computer or sensor issue. Do I need to take this vehicle to a dealer to find out exactlly what the cause is or is there some reliable method for a self check. What does the check engine light mean exactly? The stalling issue happened before the check engine light came on. Some days it drives fine, only had 1 small occurance yesterday and today it was really bad. Any help on this issue greatly appreciated!!

Take the car to Autozone and have it scanned, they will tell you what you need to get the car running again. From your description it could be the crank position sensor, fuel pressure regulator, a bad O2 sensor could have caused the cat to block up, it could be a bad ignition module, coils or any number of other items. Once you fiind out what codes you are getting, then post again and we can help you determine what to do.

Re: Re: 1999 Dodge Caravan Stalls while driving

Ok, 2 weeks ago I took the van to advanced auto. Thier readout showed a bad TPS. Changed the throttle position sensor with a bought new one and same trouble. Today I took it to a autozone and advanced both still say bad TPS. This leads me to believe a bad on board computer, wiring or another sensor sending bad readings to the TPS? The check engine soon light is on. Any sugestionsoutside of taking it to a Dodge dealer for expensive repair?

Actually the TPS sends signals to the computer not the other way around. The computer reads the voltage and determines the amount of fuel to send to the engine. Before taking it to the dealer go to a wrecking yard and see if you can get a computer for your year and model van. It will be significantly cheaper. They are usually vehicle specific on the Chryslers and only certain years will work. Also get a manual for the van and check the voltages on the TPS, you will need a digital volt meter. If the voltage is not within spec then the TPS probably is bad. If it is truly bad, however, then the sensor must have been bad when you purchased it. I doubt you have another wiring problem. Also did they tell you the code number they pulled out of the computer. Some codes may point elsewhere.

Try this as well - it's a no charge check if you've got a voltmeter or multi-tester - I've seen a lot of computers replaced when it wasn't the problem:

Hope this helps!
