Keyless Remote Quit and Door Locks Being Wierd
Lately, my keyless remote has been acting up. I tried putting a new battery in the remote but that didn't help at all.
The other night I was at Walmart and went to lock the doors ... Nothing! So I pulled the door lock paddle, all the locks snapped shut then popped right back open. Even the console switch would lock them and they would pop right back open. I had to leave it unlocked. Now today everything is working normally. Wierd! Where is the receiver for this system and is there any way to check it to see if it's working properly? Thanks,

Some usual locations for the computer or brain to an alarm is usually under the driverside dash or in the engine bay against the firewall on the driver side. As for checking them out, I'm not exactly sure what to tell you on that. Refer to your manual that came with the alarm and breeze over the troubleshooting section if you have one. If not, just take it to an auto security store and have them give it a once over to make sure the wiring is okay and what not.

I guess you're talking about the factory alarm system . . .
Ahmmm . . . good luck. Seriously though, I don't have a clue . . . sounds like what happens when you have a key in the ignition. Doors won't lock on purpose. I'd be interested in knowing your results. |

Yes, it is the factory system. I didn't know the keyless entry system was tied to the security system although it makes sense I guess.
Do you mean the doors WON'T lock with the key in the ignition? I'm going to have to go outside and check this out ................ <time passes>........ You're partially correct! The doors will still lock from either the Paddle or the Console Switch. BUT! The keyless entry device is completely inactive when the key is in the ignition. I suppose there is some logic to that but I'm not sure I get it. These automatic door locks all seem to have their peculiarities. My wife's Windstar has a "feature" where it automatically locks all the doors at unexpected times. Like, you get out to put some air in the tire, etc. Drives me crazy. I wish there was some way to disable that.

Another thing I've noticed about the G and its locks is that if your ignition lock is a little loose. The G will think your key is still in the ignition and your doors won't lock with the paddle or the console switch.
I usually have to hit part of the lock with my key to get it to lock after but I think I'll have to replace it eventually. I think this is caused by having to much weight on your keychain and putting you key in the ignition with your whole keychain still attached.

My mom had a 97 Mercury Mountaineer that would lock the doors at weird times too. Must be a Ford thing.

Locking problem
Jagmeister,
Have a look in the maintenance section under P10 Central locking. The cars in those posts did not have keyless entry but that is just a factory add on to the standard door lock timer located in the kickpanel. Not sure which side it is on your left hooker cars but check out the post anyway and see if it's helpful. Don't forget to post your findings when you've fixed it, eh. |
