Question Brake Lights/turn Signal Issue

Hi,

I'm looking for any suggestions. etc., for dealing with this issue (the cheapest/easiest way to resolve of course, if possible).

I was recently made aware that my lower brake lights weren't working (rear mount brake light works). I was certain it wasn't the bulbs since they do light up when my lights are on and my turn signals are on (except I have been having trouble with the left trun signal).

Both filaments on all four bulbs work. We checked the brakelight switch and it appeared to be working. Then we put 2+2 together with the brake light/turn signal.

The left turn signal hasn't worked properly for a month so most likely my brake lights have not all this time either (explains some close calls).

The blinker will work if, when I switch it on I also pull it back slightly. Apparently, the brake lights will also come on when I do this.

Ultimately, it looks like I'll have to have the entire turn signal replaced but I'm guessing this involves a lot of work and will cost$$$. And not that I don't mind paying for needed work, but I just had to pay a couple hundred for new front tires and am not sure I can handle an expensive repiar right now.

And I'm nervous because I'll be driving the Mass Pike tomorrow - a couple hundred miles and all I can think to do is, when I apply my brake I can pull in the turn signal at the same time (hopefully, I am coordinated enough to do this). Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance. Pam

Re: Brake Lights/turn Signal Issue

Before you spend any money, find the ground for each taillight assembly. Almost always when you see cars with messed up rear lights, the ground is bad. Check all of your sockets for corrosion on the terminals, and also check for corrosion in any connectors you find between the switch and the taillights.
