Me Vs. Modded Civic Si

Wsup all first post on AF.

Anyway recently switched from an 04 wrx 4eat to an 05 sti 6-speed manual. I had the Sti for about a month now and being my first standard shift car I wasn't out looking for a race but then again I wasn't going to turn one down if it was going to be worth the run.

I was on my way to get diner w/ my girlfriend w/ the radio blasting and I hear this loud buzzing noise. I look over at hear and ask if she hears it as well and she nods. I am thinking that I broke something on the car since I am new stick. Anyway i glance into the rear view I see a 04 blue civic SI in the right lane i am crusing in the left lane. Thats when I realize that it is the exhuast in the civic making the noise since my car is basically stock except for a ECUtek retune. The guy slowly catches up to me an rides along next to me. From what I can see its not a bad looking car and definetely not stock. The SI has a body kit, exhaust, tints, and a nice set of blacked out rims and who knows what type of engine mods. The civic is pacing me for about a mile at 40mph w/ no traffic or lights ahead. Not to be cocky or anything but I am thinking to myself is this even worth the run its only a SI and I got the GF in the car who is going to start bitching as soon as I get on it. So I decide not to run. Yeah I know no traffic no lights how can you turn down that race. Well all I can say is new to stick and I am still breaking in the car. That was until I hear pssshhht!!!!! You got to be kidding me a turbo SI. My heart started beating like crazy. Even the GF looked over and then looked at me. I was in 3rd w/ 3k on the tach. I honked to the civic to roll down his window and asked him if he wanted to run which he obviously did since he has been neck and neck w/ me for a mile. Anyway on the 3rd honk we both hit it and I jump 1 1/2 car lengths on him and continue to walk him the entire time up until about 100 mph. Ruff estimate I had him by about 6-7 car lengths by the time I decided to shut it down. Anyway the SI turned off so I didn't have the option to ask what engine mods he had beside turbo but I was happy to have my first victory in the STI. Had he taken me from a stop he would have won since I can't launch yet and it takes a while for me to pick up some speed. Can't wait to start getting some mods and have some more driving experience w/ a stick. AF rocks I am happy to finally have a worthy post.

Re: Me Vs. Modded Civic Si

Too bad. I bet it wasn't really boosted at all. Probably had one of those kits that make it sound like you have a BOV going off. Interesting enough, they can be set to go off at any RPM you want.

Welcome to AF. That was indeed a good first post. Hope you enjoy your stay here.

I did not know that they made such a kit. Anyway you got me thinking about the run an I recall that the entire time we were running I did not here his BOV at all. I was so into the moment that I surprised that I did not realize it until now.

Hmmm...well maybe what you thought was the sound of a BOV was actually your girlfriend sneezing almost identically to the sound of a BOV?

Why would you put on a giant wing when you'll never reach speeds high enough to need it? Why put on an intercooler when you have no turbo or supercharger. Why live life a 1/4 mile at a time? Why eat rice when you're not hungry??

I've wanted to ask Subaru the same exact question when they put those wings on the STI's...

Because it just looks so intimidating, you just wouldn't want to mess with an intercooled car.

Because that is the only way to live. Life is like a Hot Wheels track, put it together peice by peice. 1/4 by 1/4...

LOL. Thought it was a little odd that about the same time I heard the BOV that the inside of my car was covered in spit.

Anyway after telling my brother the story the night before it turns out that he supposedly works w/ this guy who drives the civic SI. And yes it is actually turbo from what my brother has been telling me. My brother is bringing this guy on over later today so I will let you know exactly what he is running.
