Aftermarket Hood / Factory Latch
Is it possible to put the factory latches on a fiberglass hood?
I've only got the pins keeping it shut, and figured at least if I could bolt on the factory latches it would help add a LITTLE better security. I know Philly said he's running a fiberglass hood with the latches, but do they have to coime that way, or can you pretty much add them to any aftermarket fiberglass hood? |

Also you mean security like it getting stolen or security like preventing it from flying up? Cause hoodpins are way more safe than the factory latch for keeping hoods down. Security (stealing)wise I have seen hoods pins that actually have key locks sold.

Re: Aftermarket Hood / Factory Latch
Security as in, if they can't steal my car they could always open the hood and cut the plug wires, dump something into the valve covers or radiator, etc.
I've seen the locking hood pin sets, but they say that they're to be used in conjunction with the factory latch system... and I'm back to square one. Would you use the locking pins w/o the factory latch???? My hood LOOKS like it may be set up for the factory latch, it has the hinges, etc and it has what looks like a mounting bracket formed right into it where the factory latch would go. I guess my real problem is I don't know what a factory hood looks like to know if mine will work. |

Re: Aftermarket Hood / Factory Latch
hah, I've always been paranoid about my maro being stolen.
I never leave it for any length of time ANYWHERE. Where I'm at there's an easy escape route virtually any way the wind blows, and "used parts dealers" are abundant, especially in south Philly which is only like 20 - 30 minutes or Wilmington in 15 minutes or Chester in 20 minutes. Before the cops even showed up my maro would be in pieces. However, once I get the killswitch in and working, if they can't steal my maro they would probably fuck with it. Already been keyed twice. (Talk about wanting to kill someone!) A "fun" thing to do for some of the "less motivated" youngsters around here is to fuck with your car... put stuff in your gas tank, etc. Philly people are different man. I think it's the smog or something. There ain't nothing nice about these people. I'd personally like to move to the midwest... colorado or montana, but too many anchors... like a mortgage and so much debt I couldn't move for like 130 years until all my shit is paid off. |

I see, I guess the best thing to do is put video camera's so you can see your baby when you're inside. Thankfully, I live in a neighborhood with old people so nothing ever happens.

Re: Aftermarket Hood / Factory Latch
i use pins with one little pad lock on one side and pin on the other works just fine for me its just a pad lock with a little rub part around it so it doesn't stratch the paint and it doesn't move around at all. i got the locks from walmart for like 3 dollars probly can't remember but anyways it works for me with no latch plus i live in a smaller town and when u drive a car like mine ppl just seem to know u and not wanna fuck around with her car

Re: Aftermarket Hood / Factory Latch
well my hood had some of the holes drilled in them when i got it like the rear bracket holes and the the front latch holes. if u have some of the holes in it already u can put the factory latches on it if they match. fiberglass can be altered but u gotta be careful, because u can mess it up real fast, and once its screwed your screwed. if u do that just remember when shutting the hood dont slam it, guid it down and when its at the latch just push down instead of letting it fall. i had to drill mines out to get the damn ss vent in it but it worked out just fine
