1994 Impala SS

Hey guys, check out my Impala SS. Just primered, sanded, and puttied a few things. Painted the hood the final color, and I am VERY impressed with it. Hope you like it. This kit is the Revell Impala SS Lowrider 2 'n 1. The only thing from the lowrider really, is the lowered springs in the rear. With the stock ones, kinda jacks the rear up. Anyways, check these pic's out:

check out that metal flake!

Re: 1994 Impala SS

Thanks. It's Model Master Custom Spray Enamel by Testors. The color is Deep Pearlescent Purple. But if you do pick it up, it is quite thin, so do a mist-like coat on the first coat, and then a wet coat on the second. I think the hood looks good, wait until the body is done. I would actually like to know, what type of clearcoat to put on it. Do you know if Testors makes a clearcoat? Or could I use Dupli-Color clear??

Re: 1994 Impala SS

Use testors clear. Duplicolor is a different type of paint. If you used duplicolor you will get a fatal reaction with the paint. Enamel and arc type paints dont mix to well.

Re: 1994 Impala SS

That's a sweet color! Your wheels would look 10 times better if you put some brake discs behind them and gave the tires a light sanding to remove the shine. I look forward to seeing you finish this one!
Testors clear #2936 would be the best Testors clear to use over that paint; let the can sit in some very warm (NOT hot!) tap water for a few minutes with an old towel over the can just in case the thing might explode (highly unlikely if the water isn't too warm) then spray the model while watching how the clear goes onto the body. Good luck and be careful!! Get a respirator if you don't already have one.

Haha, thanks! I know, I thinking the same things. But the black things behind them are "retainers" to hold in the tire. Tomorrow I'll get a picture to show you what I mean. I would love to put brake discs behind it, or at least a decal of 'em. Put it warm tap water?? I've never heard of that technique, but I'm sure willing to give it a go! Thanks! I should get a respirator, I can barely breathe anyways... lmao!

Re: 1994 Impala SS

The warm water helps pressurize the paint/clear so it comes out smoother and more steadily than if it were cold. I do that with all of my spraycan paintjobs because I don't have a good airbrush yet.

Re: 1994 Impala SS

Nice color. I haven't used that water technique either, but that's because with a garage in north Texas during the summer, the cans get plenty hot enough. Can't wait to see more of this build. Nice job.

Re: Re: 1994 Impala SS

No fatty! I picked the color! You were just a witness! Okay, but if Joe don't come over, we're gonna beat him! The grill came out pretty bad. I just scraped off the chrome. But I'm worried about the mesh part of the grill. :\ I can't get the chrome out of it, unless someone knows how to strip chrome, without scraping it off.
