Poping Noise in front end
I have a poping noise in the front end of my yota. It is a 99' 3.4 V6 4x4. I have no clue what it is and it has been getting worse slowly. When it happens: It happens when I hit the brakes, my suspension flexes at low speeds, or any type of presure that might be put on my front end like turning or small hills. If anyone has any idea of what I can look at or where I might be able to start tracking this sound and probably faulty part down please feel free to give me a clue of where to look.
I do have acess to a haynes manual. So if you name the part I can probably find it. |

"Popping Sound"
You might want to check out the recall info on the lower ball joint. Could be part of the problem .

Re: Poping Noise in front end
Check to see if the front propellor shaft is greased. Also, get under the truck and have someone jump up and down on the bumper. You should be able to locate the noise that way. Check the sway bar bushings.

check the rack & pinion unit , also the lower control arm bushings, and the lower ball joints. I just replaced all of these on my 98 TRD limited ext cab. kind of a pain but it drives like new again and it dont chew up tires and drive like $#!^* anymore!!

Thanks guys. It is my lower ball joint. I had the dealership tell me it was a steering rack. The pop is definalty not the 600 dollar part, but now it looks more like a 100 dollar fix.
