Can you put a buick supercharger on the gtp?? they are both for v6 3800 engines and they are both made by GM, and they look the same. So wouldnt it be ok to throw it on there??

It should bolt up fine, but I am not sure if there are any minor differences. It should be a genIII M90 though, which I imagine will work on any GM engine that had another genIIIM90 on it at some point.

Re: Supercharger Swap

The supercharger from the Buick is a direct swap to the GTP as the engines are identical. Just stay with years 97 to 03. The superchargers are M90 Eaton superchargers. Just make sure you don't try to put a Generation 1 supercharger on the Generation 2 engine as they will not fit. The Gen 2 supercharger is much better than the Gen 1 supercharger and produces more boost. The Gen 3 supercharger from the 04 and up 3.8's will not work on the earlier engines as they were redesigned.

lol. I got mixed up when I read that. Wouldn't want the guys at ClubGP to think we aren't on our toes.

NO this is accurate:

I thought you were a mod for GPs?

The genIII M90 is what was used on the 97-03 GPs the GenV M90 was used on the 04+ GPs.

I thought the GenI or GenII may have been used on the SC ford thunderbird and some older model GPs.

The Buick had a GENIII M90 and like I already stated another genIIIM90 WILL bolt up fine.

Re: Supercharger Swap

OK guys lets simplify things here a bit the Generation 1, 2 and 3 engine series are what I was talking about. Since you guys are true GP nuts you can talk about what generation the superchargers are. I just didn't want him taking a supercharger from a pre-97 engine and trying to put it on his car. The 04 supercharger won't work on the 97-03 engines either. I guess I'll have to bone up on my supercharger pedigrees!!!

Sorry for confusing everyone!!!

Not a problem GTP dad. Thats a reasonable explanation. It is rather confusing when "generation" is applied to the 3800 engine and the Eaton M90 SC. I'm used to seeing 3800 Series I, 3800 Series II, and 3800 Series III on the engines but it looks like we're stuck with "generation" III or V with the Eaton M90, otherwise it would be confusing because of the GP model years.

BTW - Your advice provided to the poster was very sound. Keep up the good work as our Moderator.
