Going back from Synthetic Oil

I was at Schucks today getting oil and a filter and I overheard two guys talking about if you've put synthetic oil in your car, you can't go back to non-synthetic oil. Is there any truth to this and if so, how bad is it for your motor? What is the potential damage? Any info is appreciated, thanks guys!

It doesnt seem that there would be a problem to me. The only logicle problem that i can think of is that their may be different things in the oil that overpowers the other stuff and your car may have grown dependent on that oil.

I've heard you shouldn't go back. Not 100% sure what it does but I've heard from a few people you shouldn't. I think the synthetic conditions the seals or something and if you put conventional back in something happens, but like I said not 100% sure.

You won't have any problems going back to conventional. But the question is. "Why would you want to?"

To have cleaner oil in your engine. For the cost of synthetic you can change your oil two, even three times with a good conventional oil that meets all of the requirements for your car.

Synthetic oil still has to collect and hold all of the contaminants that end up in any oil. Which engine do you think has cleaner oil, the one using synthetic with 6000 miles or the one running conventional with 2000?

Ya that's true ^^ but what's so good about synthetic anyway? Better lubrication im guessing, or does it break down slower or what. I'm pretty sure the only cars that really NEED it are turbo cars, is that true?

Which is why, when using synthetic, it's important to buy a quality (usually means the more expensive i.e. Mobil 1) oil filter, so that you can keep that oil in for a longer period.

They both have their benefits, but more importantly; the question at hand... there will be no issues whatsoever switching back to regular oil. Even though I'm registered as a dealer of several synthetic oils, I use non-synthetic in my vehicles and have gone back and forth several times. Its the same oil molecule, so going from synthetic to regular oil would be no different than going from Valvoline to Castrol. Different additives occur in all oils.
