Question poppin on deacceleration?

I have a 94 3.4l v6 ( shitty engine imo ) anyways,, when it rev's high and i let off it pops as it comes down.. its not really a pop but a mere crackle sputtering type noise.. Is there a way to fix this, such as getting a higher flowing cat or better exhaust, or is it something totally different then that? I also have another question my starter is shot.. Car wont even turn over how hard is the starter to replace on these son of a bitches, would i just be able to go out buy the part and then replace it without having to remove anything else? If anyone has any info on either of these it would be much appreciated thanks!

Well first off, the 3.4 isn't really as much of a crappy engine as you think it to be. It has alot of potential, but it's always overlooked seeing as in how it was only used 3 1/2 years and then replaced with the 3.8. And not to mention the V8's don't make it look very appealing either. But as for your "popping" that your hearing.. I'm guessing that your hearing it when your sitting still in neutral or park right? Well that's normal, mine does it too. It comes from the exhaust.. It's a little thing known as back pressure. If your wanting to get rid of that noise, then all I can suggest is you upgrade your exhaust to dual exhaust. That should lower your backpressure enough so that the noise will be gone.

As for your starter, mine has yet to have gone out. So I've never had to deal with changing mine. From what I hear though, it's a real pain. Try getting a Chiltons or Haynes manual, that should give you enough info as to how to change it. And I'm pretty sure NAPA or Advance Discount would carry starters. Good luck with it.

Re: poppin on deacceleration?

Nope no cheap exhausts all stock... Replaced the starter today that was interresting for a first time job... after adding two shims still doesn't disengage all the way anyone know where i can snag more shims to separate the space between the fly wheel and the gear that catches it? would murray's or autozone or advance carry em? and do they have to be specific for the make/model of the car/ starter?
