just got a 240s

i just picked 2 1990 240sx. Both hit in the front. One has auto and other has stick. i want to get the SR20DET, but i am a honda guy so this territory is new to me. I know that there are FWD and RWD SR20DET motors. What is a "Red Top" and how much is it?
Can I use my KA24 (hope i got that right) tranny to bolt to the SR motor?
Also some website says that harness needs to be modified from KA to SR motor.

The SR20DET "redtop" came in the 1991-1993 180SX and the 1991-1993 Silvia (I think I have the years right but someone correct me if I'm off). It makes 205hp at 6000rpm and 203 ft/lbs at 4000rpm. I'm not sure about bolting your KA tranny to the new SR motor, but if you buy a complete motor swap then you will get the SR tranny with it. The harness will have to be modified a little bit to get it to fit in the engine bay. Some wires will need to be lengthened and some can be shortened if you feel like taking the time to shorten them. Also on some of the connectors, the pins in the connector are in a different place and they will need to be re-arranged so that the wires line up properly (black to black, red to red, etc.....)

www.srswap.com will convert the harness for you for about 200 or so. They say that you send them your harness and it takes about 5 days total for you to ship it, then they do everything, and then ship it back to you.
www.unstable-hybrids.com also sells motors if you wanna look at prices or something

since its going to be Turbo (oh that sounds so good) is there going to be any additional stuff that i need to do? to harness or otherwise.
I already got a TTimer, but is boost controler needed?
will it be as simple as bolting it in?
how about IC and piping? any changes needed to the front? cut anywhere?
is there sequential shifter for this beast??
whats the gear ratio for the SR?
Are there any better cams for SR??

we got our own shop so we can install that sucker ourselves, its our project car.

Yeah you might want to get a boost controller, boost gauge, EGT gauge, water temp gauge, and an air fuel ratio gauge.

Sequential...well for about $15,000...they can make one for you. If you got that $15K around...let me know...I want some too. LOL.

OK, one more thing, since mine is SOHC i need to make some changes to the DOHC, i know that gauge cluster is different and tach doesnt work. I can get a JDM S13 one, but will it be plug and play and/or is it matter of changing the plugs. or is it more complicated.

No a boost controller isn't needed but it's still a good idea to get one incase if you want to increase boost later on. The SR is just a matter of bolting it into the 240 chassis. You can use the stock 240 SX engine mounts or if you buy a full front clip, you can use the engine mounts that come with your SR. Just use the ones in better shape. If you buy a front clip then you should get the stock intercooler and piping, but if you are planning on increasing boost, then you will need a front mount intercooler. Also I just read in the new issue of SCC that if you are puting the SR into an 89-90 240 SX (which I'm guessing that you are if you have the SOHC motor) then your going to need to cut the hole in the front left fender bigger because that is where the 3 pipes attatched to the intercooler travel through. If you are using a 91 or up 240 then the hole is already the right size. Sequential Shifter - I think that quife (sp?) makes one for your car. As for the cams, Jim Wolf Technology www.jimwolftechnology.com makes cams for it. also I've seen some Nismo cams being sold on www.jspec.com . Good Luck on your project
