I saw that.

The last one went for almost $900 USD. :22yikes:

Anyway, Thorst and mclarenmaniac are our resident experts when it comes to F1 diecasts in this scale and Thorst seems to believe they are real now.

Check this thread: There is a 1:12 Dark Red Metallic ORIGINAL McLaren

Question

Hi,

I've seen that, too. But what's the cars item-number? And where does it really come from? I also know only the 'normal' six colors plus Thorst13's post about these dark red ones.
But can anyone confirm that these cars haven't been repainted?

It has to be incredibly rare!
They are some kind of mysteries these models (and some UT's as well).
It has to be a limited edition produced for some kind of event, but little is known besides that they are clearly made at PMA's as theyre completely original and not repainted.
Here are a few pics. of mine for comparison

Seems to be the same....

BTW...? If you read my original post about these you would not have to ask if they where repainted or not...??

Hi,

@Thorst:

I have read your post about that car, and you mentioned that your car is in perfect condition. Without flaws etc. You might have misunderstood me (or I did not say it clearly ;-) I just wanted to ask where the color comes from because, as you also said, the 'original' colors are the well known six ones. Nobody heard about this dark red color until some of these car appeared. So, as you said, too, it may be a special production by PMA. Therefore, so I thought, perhaps someone at PMA repainted some of these cars for any special event. And that's what you confirmed. The car is original.

But please let me ask you a second question:

Do these models (no matter what color) have any kind of number (production number?) on the bottom? If so, what is the number of this dark red one? - You already said the box yours came in doesn't have a number.

Thanks a lot,

RedM6

It sold for $1390!
Bidding war I see.
It's a good price and I'm happy with that I paid $500 less for mine

I would say around $1000-1200 in good shape.
It's the third on the "ranking list" over desired colors.

Call me crazy, but I find both Dark Silver and Green to be more appealing to me than a plain Silver. I'll probably be buying one or the other soon and at that time I may sell my blue one.

I was shocked at the price of the Burgundy example - one lucky seller there.

Have you seen the silver in reality?
I used to think the same thing until I saw it, It's just the best looking one for some reason. The dark silver is beautiful but it has not the same affect as the silver one.
I think red and yellow are the least "McLaren" look, but at least red has fetched enormous ammounts lately.
Well $600 for a yellow ain't exactly cheap either
