There is a 1:12 Dark Red Metallic ORIGINAL McLaren

What can I say!
My own words have been put to shame, I have collected these models for 10 Years and NEVER seen the Dark metallic Red 1:12 before!!!
NEVER!!!
When I saw the first one ever I was extremely suspicious as this could not be a original release, even my friend who used to work at PMA couldnt recall this color!
After an intensive ammount of detective work I finally was able to track one down!
Today I recieved one of the rarest models ever, I was so exited to check it out, was it original? Was i repainted? Why the hell havent I seen this before?
And there it was!!!
In a perfectly mint box, with original soft paper and NO flaws!
MY DARK RED METALLIC 1:12!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'M AMAZED!

thorst!!
even our friend mlooker acquired it but it doesnt have a BAR code...
seems like the guy who sold it on ebay had 4 pieces that he acquired from an auto show......
it could have been factory painted for some special customers but was never seen anywhere before..........
as long as there are no flaws its a jewel in your collection..
pretty sure u must have paid huge for it!
anyways enjoy it!!

Yup, I have to say these red metallic ones are mysteries....
I spoke to M and he was unfourtunate with his as it had some flaws.
Mine was litteraly perfect, none of the "known" 1:12 problems!
If you, M and myself havent seen these before they must be incredibly rare and a kind of special production from PMA!?
Youre right about the "no barcode" thing, but the box is completely original and has not even a print in the area the barcode should be.
I can send high resolution pics. if someone bothers to post them for me.

Sounds awesome. How did you become aware that there MAY be a dark red one?

Speaking of which:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

As for known problems with the 1:12s, paint chips are common at the edges of the panels that open (ie: the trunk, the hood,...), the front wheels are succeptible to breaking off during shipping even in the proper box, and apparently the paint on the wheels fades.

Re: There is a 1:12 Dark Red Metallic ORIGINAL McLaren

The paint on the wheel fades because of the nature of the plastic--it's derived from petroleum by-products and is constantly "evaporating", taking the paint with it. Of course, the process is very slow, so it appears as if the paint is fading.

You can try to fix this by buying a spray can of fixatif from an artist supply store. Spray it on and it will put an invisible film on the wheel surfaces, keeping them from deteriorating.

Re: There is a 1:12 Dark Red Metallic ORIGINAL McLaren

1 in feedback rating and only feedback from a user who is no longer registered, I would do some seroius research before I paid this guy over $800! Could be a watcher who has spotted those insane ammounts I and some others recently used on this version. I could be a ordinary red even though it looks like a metallic one. I seriously don't understand where all these metallic red ones suddenly came from.
I had'nt seen a single one since the 1:12's were originally released and suddenly I've seen 5 in a month!!! People who have collected these as long as me has never seen any either untill this month?!?! I havent heard anything about a re-release either and that should be "impossible" as well!
Uuuuuhhhh nooo...I would not recommend using ANY kind of chemical on the rims of those PMA models. They use a weird paintmix who almost reacts to everything and makes the paint sticky and "gum like".

Hehe, sometimes I do that because these forums have had very little action lately!

Fixatif is chemical-friendly, and will create an invisible layer over the sticky mess so that it is no longer sticky to the touch. Use it without fear.
