again thanks dude. its lookin like ima have to do some all custom work. but thats not too too bad. im just happy to see a few things startin to come around for the early model cavs. also if you know of any places that sell coilovers, or drop kits, or air ride suspensions let me know. MY cav needs a drop badly.

The reason there are so few performance parts for cavys is because it was just recently that they became a "worthy" sport compact in the eyes of the tuner markets.
Sure, there are some that have done custom work, but you wont find too much for Cavy's older than 95 or so. Its sad really, because these cars do have alot of potential. I have a few links on my other computer that may be of some help. Ill post em a bit later, or tomorrow morning. Good luck with the search, and let us know how it goes ![]() --Rich

depending on the turbo you have/want to get, even the custom work shouldnt be too bad. most turbos are driven by the exhaust so all you'd need to do is figure out where you want the turbo itself, and where you plan on getting the air to pump through the turbo. I've seen turbos mounted to the side of the exhaust (under the trunk), or in the engine compartment (more so for ram-air kind of stuff) but overall it shouldn't be too bad to do...but then again nothing that "shouldn't be that bad" always is... either way, good luck with it

thanks for all the encouragement yall. i just found out that its goin to take quite a bit of custom work and quite a bit of cash.
custom made intake manifold, custom exaust manifold, complete bottom end build, custom piping, custom exaust piping, custom fuel management system, possible custom intercooler. its goin to be a long hard road guys and the end result wont be very much boost. unless you do alot of building to the bottom end. i just found out that the rods and bottom end of the early model cavys are very weak and wont hold well to NOS or BOOST. so word of advice to those of you who plan to go FI or DIRECT PORT NOS. BUILD UP YOUR ENGINE OR U WILL END UP WITH A BLOWN MOTOR. but again yall thanks for all the info and support. i will keep yall updated as this project goes along. |

Hello all, im just new to this forum. I have a 97Z and am pretty knowledgeable when it comes to performance.
DJ, it will be difficult for you to turbo your cav. I have seen turbo projects on 2.2's, but they are very custom jobs. First off you would need a custom manifold to mount a turbo, probibly a T3 due to its size and output. Oil lines need to feed the turbo with lubrication. YOu also need plumbing to go from the turbo to the TB. Of corse you need increased fuel to go with boost, and a spark coil upgrade as well. Your car does not have a MAF sensor, so you could probibly use a fuel pressor regulator (FPR) to increase fuel to the cylinders, considering you cannon change the injector pulses w/o expensive computer equiptment. Your engine might have many miles and be week so i would not suggest anything over 5lbs boost unless you plan on building up the internals. Anyways, that is a start, there is much more to consider when turboing a car, and it is no easy job. OH, and Ironmike215, i think your a little confused.. this should help out. http://www.howstuffworks.com/turbo.htm

well i already knew the basics that you mentioned and was really hopin that it wasnt goin to be such a extreamly major job. but hey thats all part of the fun in it right? also i was goin to build the bottom end because the stock cavy for my year has very weak rods, and pistons. but again yall thanks for all the responses they have been helpful in the progress of my investments. also another idea i was thinkin of goin is goin with a SUPERCHARGER. what wuld that run me and what cars have one thats compatible with my motor. or would that also be a custom job?

A supercharger will be an even more custom job, because no one makes one for the 2nd gen, plus you have to get custom mounted pulleys, brackets, etc. Go with a turbo, its the best way to make efficent power, it will be cheaper for your application and cost you less.

thanks man.....here is another option that was given to me the other day. i found a 1988 beretta V6 with a 2.8L motor in it...... the head is cracked and i think the block was busted too......what i was thinkin of doin was pullin the tranny and the suspension and see if it could be mounted to my car. then drop a 3.1L Z24 motor in my car. this would save me some trouble cuz id be able to pick up the car for a meare $150. and all it would cost me is to have the stuff mounted cuz im sure i could pull it all off over time. would it fit or is it too far off?
