91 Buick Regal ECM

Hey can someone help me, the following lights are on in the car, service engine, low coolant, and check gages. I already read the codes from the car and got only code 41 (the cam shaft sensor) so I replaced that and the coolant temp. sensor since it was damaged. Reseted the ECM and the service engine light goes out for a few seconds but comes right back on and I read the codes and still get code 41. I had read the repair manuel and it says that the ECM might be defective (previous owner had it replaced) Is there any way to test the ECM. OTher wise I am figuring to go to autozone and buy the 100 dollar remanufactured ECM.

Also I noticed that fuel gage reads 3/4 of a tank but the low fuel light pops up and baffeled me. I decided to check the fuses to see if anything was wrong, when I unpluged one of them I noticed that the fuel gage went down to the red markings but the low fuel went off along with the the battery (volt meter) meter. Please advise me on what procedures need to be followed.

Re: 91 Buick Regal ECM

I ment ECU my bad
I just went and replaced it but that didn't fic the problem with the check engine light and code 41. I already replaced the sensor as well. Please someone advise me on what procedure I should use to solve this problem. I am thinking about a tune up and getting the wires checked.

Re: 91 Buick Regal ECM

disconnect the battery cables for about 20-30 min,
then reconnect and retest. that should clear out any codes that were once there.

In the (lengthy) link below, you will read some very good troubleshooting techniques and information concerning cam sensors, crank sensors, ECM’s, grounds and false interpolation of codes, and the cost associated with “changing parts” to find the problem.

reremove your camsensor ,take a mirrow and look in the hole and rotate engine 2 revloutions slowely or until u can see the magnet, and see if it is there or it is gone,it is studk in from the back side of the cam sprocket, bu tu can see if it is there of it is gone, the book does not tel u this info , this will give u a code 41 , i know ,i have been there and done that ,took me months to figure this one out. if magnet is gone u get code 41. it just snaps in the rear side of the cam sprocket but u can see it thru the hole. ted in ga
