turn signals are blinking fast

hello, the turn signals of my 2002 firebird recently started acting up. my turn signal lights were working fine but all of a sudden they started blinking fast, then they go back to normal and then they start blinking fast again. im not sure what the problem might be but any help is appreciated. thanks in advance!

From what I've heard, when your signals start blinking fast, that means the bulb is about to burn out. I may be wrong. But that's what a friend of mine told me.

bllinxeyed is correct.check all your turn signals, one might not be working. could be because of a defective bulb or corrosion on the contacts.

Have you replaced the flasher unit? I am not an electrical whiz, but with the engine off, it is possible that less voltage is available to the flasher than when the alternator is supplying current (engine running). If the flasher unit is weak (getting ready to fail), it would seem to work properly when the battery is powering the electrical stuff, but could be overloaded when the alternator is supplying the power.

I agree. I have experienced similar situations with my various pontiacs over the years to have bad flashers when it happens. Seeing how it's a relatively inexpensive part, changing it wouldn't hurt reguardless.

That does sound like either a bad bulb or maybe even a bad ground.

Lightbulb

My 2001 Firebirds turn signals were acting up too one time...they would go really slow and then all the sudden speed up. I ended up just changing the Flasher plug and now it works fine. Hopefully this helps you. :-)
