oil catch cans
I'm aware of how they work but was wondering whats on the inside of the can that makes the oil catch. baffles? filters? absoultly nothing?

I think there is some kind of a baffle system to prevent back flow of vapors.
An oil catch can traps oil vapor from your PCV or valve cover and prevents this oil from getting recirculated into the intake. Greddy makes one: http://www.nipponpower.com/accessori..._catchcan.html |

is that a name for those little foam filter thingies that v8 guys use in the PCV holes in the valve covers? (instead of tubes connecting to the intake)

the foam blocks do virtually the same thing except for the fact that the catch cans give the vapors time to condense hence letting almost no oil return to the intake side, where as the blocks just act as a mechanical 'filter'.

I always figured the filters were to keep dirt out, rather than to keep oil in... Never paid that much attention to them though.

thanks sleeperteg, I was hoping that someone that had one would let me know 'cause I can't see spending 100 on something that I could make but if there is baffles/ect. in there than I'd just buy one

They basically just keep your engine running 'cleaner' by not letting all of those nasty oil carbons re-entering the intake. I dont have one, but have done a bit of research on them. Not really a performance part, but should extend the life of your engine and keep your runners and intake valves from getting any gummier than possible. |

heres another little tid-bit about them, if your turbocharged they help prevent detonation 'cause oil has a lower octane rating, that why I'm interested in making/buying one
