Re: How much fuel does the world really have left?

yup

we've already got H20 buses in southern Australia I heard.

I bet they run 15's.

What'll the ricers be in 50 years?

"oh yeah man, I put that battery-charger on i get another 6 minutes of boost" hehe.

(battery charger as opposed to super-charge it for those who didn't get it)

Re: How much fuel does the world really have left?

that's not strictly 100% correct.
when they say "recovereable" they normally mean "financially viable and within current economic/mechanical means".

in short, it's not technically (worth) recovering if it is going to cost too mcuh to get to it.
that is why you have to actively question why oil prices are going up even though at the moment, the supply is still sufficient/viable.
could it possibly be that the powers that be are trying to make it more viable to get at the harder to reach sources?

don't get me wrong, i'm not advocating the current fuel usage trends as i'm always one for the continual development/refinement of technology both new and old.
on a fundemental level, i do agree that we should be more mindful of what's going on with regards to fossil fuel use, because the simple truth is, ignoring any presented "how many years left" articles, is that it won't last forever and this is one fact that we can't deny.

the thing i'm against here, is the mis-representing of things that may or may not be absolute fact.

Mate, didn't you know? Intelligent posts are strictly forbidden in COT

j/k

You're absolutely correct. A sustained oil price of $50+ also makes it economically worthwhile for countries which previously didn't extract oil to start doing so.

At some point the cost of extraction will match the cost of converting shale to oil. When that happens, there will be several trillion more barrels available which is enough to last several hundred years at the current rate of consumption. I'm not to worried about running out of oil.
