Question camaro vs 70 boss 351

well i listed this in the mustang forum but they haven't answered it. well my next door neighbor has a 70 boss with a 351 and wants to race. well how much hp does it have, he won't let me look under the hood, and there is no badge saying it's a boss mustang, and it's not loud at all so i think it might be a sleeper? how bad would i get rapped?

I don't know Smoke, you beat a lot of big balls cars, the LT1 swap seems undefeatable, i say you might be able to beat him, depends on what he's running.

Re: camaro vs 70 boss 351

1970 Ford Mustang Boss 351 car
The rarest of Ford Mustangs — the Boss 351 — debuted at the Detroit Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. Ford first introduced the Mustang marquee in 1964 and the car was an instant success, appearing on the covers of both Time and Newsweek. The car, known as a "pony car" for its small size, had the appearance of a sports car. However, the Mustang was far more reasonably prized than the average sports car, and it possessed a rare popular appeal that made it one of the greatest automotive success stories of the 1960s. By 1970, the Ford Mustang had grown considerably in size, and the Boss 351 could better be described as a "muscle car" than a "pony car." The car featured a powerful 8-cyclinder engine built on Ford's new "Cleveland" block, and was factory rated at 300 bhp. The Boss 351 was also unquestionably the rarest Mustang ever released — it was manufactured for just a single production year, 1971, and only 1,806 units were made — compared with the 500,000 Mustangs manufactured and sold by Ford in 1965 alone.

300bhp w/ old technology or LT1.... Honestly I think it iwll be close.

It really depends what he has done to it. I'd watch out though the 351 Cleveland is a really a big block in sheeps clothing and the Boss 4V heads flow like a fucking dump truck. It would take a only take a few simple mods to make that motor crank out a N/A 400hp very easily.

Just race and have fun.

I have ridden in both a third gen with an LT1 in it and a BOSS 351 mustang.....

Not to be a douce bag but if I had to put money on it, it would have to go with the BOSS

Pound for Pound I think the Boss would edge up on you. Also depends as GTStang said of the mod's he's done. If its stock, close race. Any mods on him, I think you'll be seeing some shiny tail lights. :*(

A properly tuned and lightly modded LT1 would win in a stoplight to stoplight race. The old 351 has to wind up pretty good to start making power, the LT1 on the other hand, makes monster amounts of torque at a much lower RPM, You'd probably have 1 or 2 car lengths on him before he got into his power band.
Of course, this is stock for stock. If he has built up the engine he'd probably take you...now if you had a nicely modded LS1, the race would be over before he knew what happened.

Actually a 351C 4V headed motor makes a lot of torque and does not need to wind-up a lot to make good power but it keeps winding and does choke out.

Think of a Chevy 302 ability to wind into higher rpm's but with better bottom and mid-range.

the chevy 302's were able to wind to 10 grand w/ slight mods... i never knew the 351 ford could do that....

u learn somethin everyday i guess
