Just got laid off....

AND LOVING IT!

Actually, the thread title isn't entirely accurate. The firm i work for is 'restructuring' and is laying people off. I wasn't laid off, but offered two positions that are a joke, and an insult to my ability. Perfect. I smiled at my director and accepted, and promptly booked a three week holiday starting on Wednesday. This will allow me to study for a monster exam i have coming up in early June, and hopefully pass. The day i get back to the office, i flip 'em the bird and leave for a huge summer holiday

I'm thinking Montreal, followed by the South of France, followed by my friend's place in Spain. Whatever happens, it will be big

I was planning to leave my current employer in June anyway, i have an offer on the table from another firm (not ideal location, but great pay, almost 3x current salary) so this way i get paid for this whole month while sitting at home, and get to go on a fat holiday afterwards

... not to mention giving my boss a piece of my mind when i get back

Expect piss posts on the 4th of June onwards

Hoorah! Well done. 3x salary isn't something to sneeze at. And of course giving your boss the finger....priceless.

Re: Just got laid off....

I got laid off last October.

But then my boss quit too and hired me to design the logo of the new company he started. He paid me considerably more than I was making working for him at the store.

For a moment I was like damn, poor guy, but I'm glad you are going to get something else.

AS for the plan of yours, not bad, just hope your boss does not read AF.

Enjoy your vacation/time off.

Please... I'm not even sure my boss can read

And anyway, the leave form is signed and in my possession. No going back now.

Now, for the speech i give him when i get back, the "you're losing out" speech. Any aspiring script writers want to give me any ideas?

I know it would be a great feeling to tell your boss off, but just a friendly reminder not to burn any bridges. These things seem to have a way to turn around and bite you in the ass later on. Your choice, but leaving quietly and professionally will never hurt you.

Re: Just got laid off....

I told one of my ex-bosses that he was a great engineer but an awful boss!!! He had a fit, yelling and screaming and shit. Then booted my ass out the door.
He accused me and several others (his M.O. to get rid of people !!) and told me to leave and return everything he gave me from his office. So I went home and got my safety equipment (hard hat, glasses, etc.) and returned that afternoon. I put the hard hat on his desk and spun it around (like the "spin the bottle" game). Then left with a HUGE ASS grin on my face and left him a nice little burnout in his parking lot !!!

Re: Just got laid off....

First Chicago then Canada? Isn't there anywhere where i will be welcome?

And Yogs, point taken. I'm not going to swear at him or anything, just tell him he's made a mistake. God knows there's very little sense behind his decisions. He fired probably the smartest guy in the whole firm as well

West Hollywood. The gay community is huge there. They'll make you feel right at home.

Damnit, and I was all ready to make fun of you and everything

And did I say I lived in Chicago? I meant New York.
