First completed post on AF - Shelby Cobra 427

With shaking hand and knees and prepared to "styren-ed" to death, I post my 2nd built model in XXX years.

It's the Revel/Monogram 427 Cobra painted in Tamiya acrylics and TS Dark Blue. I treated this model as a training exercise in detailing methods and, considering it's my second model, everything is first time for me. Cobra fans please don't be angry that this not a true replica.

I detailed the engine with wire rescued from an old telephone. Alcad2 on the chrome parts. Added Eduard 4-point seat belts. Made the tonnau cover as an on/off option. I had to mask and paint the stripes with TS silver since the decals "bit the hand that microsoled" them and had to be removed. The rear lights were missing in the 3$ ebay bought kit, so I bought a scrapped diecast 250TR and resized teh redlights from that.

Little bits that I came up with on my own with are: the hood stand (BIGtime out of scale ); cheating on the suspension springs by wrapping wire around the molded in coil instead of cuttin' 'em out ; and using polished and cut-to-shape left over bit of PE frame from the seatbelts to make a reflective surface for the driver's rear mirror - the last 2 actually came out really well to my surprise and think I can suggest them to newbies/lazy sons like me.

Needless to say I owe a big "thank you" to everyone on this forum for all the ideas and suggestions you share here - all the good bits (if any) on the Cobra are yours, the crappy bits are ALL mine !!

cheers

stevenski

Re: First completed post on AF - Shelby Cobra 427

Not only does this look magnificent for a second model, I be so happy it I d ever make a sweet car like this.

Considering you even had to paint the stripes on, then the seatbelt, the detailed engine, the alclad, who are you fooling, you 're not a newbie !

if I might add a little personal comment, I would (personally) put a little wash of thinned smoke in the wheels, to make the chrome look a bit more in depth.

Splendid model!
me likes!

Erm, sure, smartass... on a 1968 car eh?

don't think it was made of bLillet

I was just saying that the rims would look much better and deeper if you 'd wash it with very diluted smoke, just as you would do with panellines, would make the whole appearance of the rim look nicer, deeper.
And the "chrome" I said , is not to the material the rim was made out, but the colour of the rim...

dude, chill out,

Still I remain where I left, a particularly nice model!

My thoughts exactly!

I also agree that a bit of dark wash on the wheels would add some nice depth and detail to the wheels.

Great looking model! Looking forward to seeing more from you.

You can credit us for all the good bits and keep the crappy for yourself - but then, you'd have to give us all the kit! I see no crappy bits! It looks absolutely wonderful to me.
