87 crown vic wagon... fuel pump & filter location
I dont know much about cars... (i guess thats obvious)... does anyone know if the fuel pump on the 87 crown vic wagon is in the gas tank or mounted on the motor... I have one that has been sitting up for a couple of years and am trying to get it started so I can sell it.... when I spray ether into the intake it runs... when the ether burns away it stops... The car was running well before i let it sit. If someone could send me a link where i can find diagrams on where the pump and filter are located i would appreciate it....I know I will replace the filter... and if the pump is on the motor and easy to get to I would be able to replace it too if needed. If anyone has any other suggestions on what I need to do to get it running...please let me know
thanks greg [email protected] |

The pump is in the tank and the filter is on the frame rail.

Re: 87 crown vic wagon... fuel pump & filter location
I believe it is in front of the drivers side rear wheel. I am doing this from memory, so it may be on the passenger side in front of the rear wheel. It is under the car and you need to put it on jack stands.

The filter is on the passenger side frame rail and the pump is in the tank. Most of the time the only reason the pump is on the engine is if the car is carb.

i think i hear the pump
I hear what i call a thump... when i turn the key on I hear a thump comming from the back of the car... i dont hear it continuously runing .... just a thump every time i turn the key on.
If I have to change the pump... does the gas tank have to be droped to get to it or is there another way??? thanks greg |

the sound you should hear would be more like a buzz for a couple of seconds then it will stop and to change the pump you would have to drop the tank

Re: 87 crown vic wagon... fuel pump & filter location
filter is on the passenger side frame rail just ahead of the rear tire. just like on the 88 I tore down.
as far as the pump? I assume its in the tank. I'll know tommorrow when I drain the tank and pull the unit out. Do you need any glass for your wagon? I have all of it except for the windshield... |
