please advise on cat heat problem

bought a 1998 200SX SE-R that is lowered two inches.

handles great, but the catalytic converter leaves burn marks on the grass where i sometimes have to park.

are there aftermarket catalytics that get less hot? are there other legal solutions? (aside from raising the car--that i won't do)

aside from the fact that it's illegal to just remove the cat, i'm chosing to not do that because the oxygen sensors would play merry hell with all kinds of fuel-air computational bullshit i don't understand with the cat gone.

any advice?

thanks in advance!

Re: please advise on cat heat problem

Its quite possible that your cat is plugged with hydrocarbons and needs to be replaced. There are aftermarket cats that flow better and will probably run a touch cooler. Depending on where you live, some of them are smog legal. Your emissions will probably increase with a high-flow cat but usually they'll stay within spec.

Make sure your heat shield is still in place, too. It may have been ripped off by a speed bump.

Dynomax and Catco make performance high-flow cats. Should be about $100 from summit.

Becareful if you live on the East side of the state though. I know anything is fine here on the west side where I live but over buy Detroit they do have emissions testing.
