How the hell...

Call me an idoit, but exactly how does an auto 4speed(700r4) tranny work? Last night i took my brother out on the highway cuz he wanted me to go fast. What happened was i chicken out when i got to 80 because the damn thing was redlining at 5500, yellow begins at 45 and red at 50. I was scared i would of blown the motor or something would of broke. 1st gear definitely works, it shifts into second perfectly at 4500, but it seems like there no 3rd, or is there? Could someone explain to me how the 700r4 works? I just don't wanna break anything.

2.73 is stock for my car. I figure if you put in drive, it would shift through all 4 gears. I start from a dig, it definitely shifts into 2nd, but when in 2nd and when it should shift to 3rd, damn thing keeps revving, all the way up to 5500 (is that normal), i just don't wanna blow anything.

Re: How the hell...

Well, if you don't feel the shifts then it probably isn't shifting out of 2nd or 3rd. That would definately cause it to rev way up and not go much faster. Like Xeno said take off from a stop sometime and count all the shifts to make sure it's shifting, otherwise it's prolly time for a rebuild.

Damn, i was hopeing i didn't have to do rebuild yet, so i'll try this afternoon when i get of of work. I've plently of people be able to get there v-6 3rd gens up into the 100's but i haven't even been able to break 95, cuz it looks like the shits gonna blow, but it is cool to redline your car, the last time i did that, my motor seized up while i was on the highway, not cool.

If you put in in drive it's only gonna go through 1-3 and not engage the OD band.

Also I think a stock 700R4 won't shift into OD at full throttle. Some1 correct me if this is wrong.

Re: How the hell...

I don't see why the tranny woudn't shift if the R's are that high unless there is something wrong with it. But you could try letting off the gas when you have it up that high and see if the transmission shifts.

Well last time I tried going the fastest on my car I got to 105! and you havent even borken 95, shame on you. Also OD doesnt kick in at full throttle only at 3/4 throttle down, but you can make it go like that, just needs some work.

Re: How the hell...

Sorry, I don't memorize you life, I have better things to do... You got your sixer up to 105 and he can't hit 100 with a 305? I think there is something wrong with his transmission, but that's just me...

I'm startin to believe the tranny needs work. I went from a dig, it shifted into to second but once i was pretty much redlining in 2nd no shift, biotch keep wanting to rev, got all the way up to 5500, i must say it did sound pretty damn good though. It still has an amazing pull, just afraid somethings gonna blow. Really sucks though.

Re: How the hell...

My problem is that you're coming down on me for not knowing that you have a v6, like I should have read your other thread and commit your car to my memory. Like I said I have better things to do...

Re: How the hell...

On your console, how do the numbers read?
1 2 3 D N R P

or

1 2 D OD N R P

(I have a 5-speed, so I dont have this problem. Last automatic I had was a 3 speed)
