Re: What are Acrylic and Enamel advantage and disadvantage??

I hate enamels, but thats just me. They never cure they are forever drying. They are very incompatible...so on and so forth.

Acrylic, what kind? Lacquer, synthetic, alcohol, waterbased?

Re: What are Acrylic and Enamel advantage and disadvantage??

I like the enamels for brush detailpainting ( Humbros , Testors) ´cause they dont dry as fast as Tamiya´s acrylics. More working time that is..
I like acrylic for the same reason i dislike them , when it comes to painting bigger, glossy areas (=bodys,e.t.c.). Thats because they dry fast and therefore wont pick up dust and other unwelcome particles while drying. Enamels need a few weeks to dry properly before polish/buffing

Well Enamel is very good for brush paint. They won't leave brush mark, they go oever Everything (you can't put lacquer or acrylic over it)
They cure slowly, but offer a good result.

They can go over most stuff, but stuff cant go over them. It is a good consistancy for brush, but then again, I never brush anything.

They're the same - I hate em both!
I used to be an enamel man, and still use them occaionally for brushpainting, but lacquers are the way to go for me

Actually, you can cover them, but it is hell to do. Enamels, like previously said, are good if you don't want to have a brushed look to your parts, but take a while to dry and can take multiple coats on most colors, even black. Waterbased acrylics are what I normally use. They have a nice flat look to them that gives the appearance of cloth much better than enamels. They scratch easily though if you don't clear them. Also, they need to be sanded down if you are brushing them over a large area if your looking for that smooth finish.

Re: What are Acrylic and Enamel advantage and disadvantage??

dont mean to hijack the post but what do u guys think of tamiya syntheic laquers? (in the spray can) im thinking of decanting them to use in my airbrush, coz they seem to be inbetween acrylics and enamels (ie fast drying time and a hard finish)??

A lot of people decant them, like Willimo.

Yup, decanting Tamiya TS cans and spraying through an airbrush works a treat.
